In a classy move which is sure to thrill fans, Slayer have announced that they’ve patched things up with Dave Lombardo, and that legendary drummer will be joining them for roughly half the dates on their upcoming farewell tour. Interestingly, Lombardo will not replace the band’s current drummer, Paul Bostaph; instead, Lombardo will play tracks he originally recorded and Bostaph will do the same. In other words, Lombardo will play classics like “Raining Blood” and “Mandatory Suicide,” and Bostaph will play songs like “Disciple” and “Bitter Peace.”
Says frontman Tom Araya in a statement:
“Dave is obviously a huge part of Slayer’s history. It just wouldn’t be right for us to retire without ever playing with him again. We know the fans wanted this, and we wanted it, too. We’re so happy he’s agreed to come onboard for these shows.”
Adds Bostaph:
“Dave is my idol. I’m overwhelmed and overjoyed to be sharing a drum kit with him. The fans are in for something really, really special.”
Concludes Mr. Lombardo himself:
“I’m back, bitches! Into the breach… one last time…”
In other news, I may now have to pay a scalper a fuckton of money for a ticket to a show I had previously planned to skip. Talk about bittersweet.
