Translation: He is the mentor of MDPR - Metal Devastation, a company that encompasses the best of several worlds, such as radio, band promotion and releases, Heavy Metal festivals, etc., etc. Zack Moonshine, as he is known in the industry, could be the answer to promoting and publicizing bands and recordings, both in the United States, where he comes from, and in the rest of the world.
Are 24 hours enough for all the things you do?
No, 24 hours a day often doesn’t seem like enough time to juggle everything. From running a radio show, to managing promotions, organising festivals, working with magazines and maintaining a presence on social media, it’s a constant balancing act. However, my passion for metal keeps me motivated and keeps me going. It’s not just a job; it’s a labour of love that drives me to make the most of every moment.
Tell us how it all started?
I started in radio in 2008. It all started when I was interviewed about my one-man band Brutal Death F..k. During that interview, the hosts asked if I would be interested in hosting a radio show and that’s how it all began. One opportunity led to another and before I knew it, I was deeply involved in many aspects of the metal music scene. What started as a simple radio show has grown into a comprehensive platform that encompasses radio, promotions, festivals and more, all under the Metal Devastation banner.
Why Metal? Why not Metal?
For me, Metal is everything. It has been a constant presence in my life since childhood, helping me navigate some of the most challenging times. The power, emotion and community within metal is unparalleled. It’s not just a genre; it’s a way of life that resonates deeply with me. I almost feel like I owe something to the music that has given me so much, which is why I am so dedicated to supporting and promoting the metal scene. You have four different promo-packs to help artists and bands reach more people.
What’s the most popular pack?
Typically, new clients start with the most affordable package. It’s an entry point for them to try out our services and see the value we bring to their promotional efforts. Once they see the positive impact we can have, they often move up to larger packages that offer more comprehensive support. It’s rewarding to see bands grow and expand their reach through the services we provide. You get to work with people from all over the world, from radio shows to magazines, etc.
How exciting is that?
It’s incredibly fascinating and enriching to work with people from all over the world. Growing up, I traveled extensively, which exposed me to many different cultures and perspectives. This early exposure instilled in me a deep respect for diversity and a curiosity for the world. Working with international artists, radio shows and magazines allows me to continue exploring different cultures and musical styles, making my work with Metal Devastation not just a job, but a global adventure.
What does a band need to do to be promoted by MDPR?
The process is simple. Bands interested in our promotional services should contact me directly at zach@metaldevastationradio.com. From there, we can discuss their specific needs and how we can help them reach a wider audience.
Who are some of the most important bands you have worked with in terms of promotion?
We have had the privilege of working with many great bands, but one standout experience was promoting Ola Englund’s new single with his band Feared. It was an exciting project because Ola is such a respected figure in the metal community. There are many other important bands that we work with, but this one is particularly fresh in my mind.
What is the metal scene like in Tennessee and the state as a whole?
The metal scene in Tennessee is relatively small, especially compared to other genres that are more prominent here. However, we do have the Metal Devastation Music Fest, which is a significant event for metal fans in the area. It is something that people look forward to all year long, as it is one of the few vehicles brave enough to showcase metal in a state where many areas are heavily influenced by church culture. The festival brings together metal enthusiasts from all over the world and provides a vital space for the community.
What do you know about Portugal?
I have many friends in Portugal and visited the country many years ago. It is a beautiful place with a rich cultural heritage and I would love to return one day. The metal scene is also vibrant and exciting.
