Stein Aklsen, the man behind this Minneriket, is apparently a jack-of-all-trades. Not only is he able to bring most of the music he writes himself. He has also been able to record and mix this entire album himself. The good man also travelled all over Norway to record ambient sounds and then integrated them into his compositions. In addition, you can take a look at the list of artists who have collaborated on this fifth album, Gjennom Meg Går Ingen Til Hvile. Lord Aklsen found cronies and brothers all over the world.
But what does this fifth album bring? He himself calls it romantic black metal. Well as long as the creature has a name, I think. When I look at the cover design and read this above, a cult band like Dismal Euphony immediately comes to mind. The mighty Soria Moria Castle of these Norwegians dates back to 1996.
Whistling, with a snapping footstep and a gloomy piano melody, the record starts. Then a somewhat atypical female vocal part takes the song further in tow and we indeed end up in a black metal variant that leans against that of Dismal Euphony and friends. A prominent bass line pushes the somewhat scratchy guitar themes into the background of the scene, but that can't hurt. Then the plate unfolds or explodes completely and Mr. Aklsen pulls open the entire register. In terms of vocals, in addition to the warmer, rather deeper female voice, you often hear a braver scream. Musically, especially the synth parts seem to take the upper hand and it is they who tell the stories. Many other classical and less classical instruments are also reviewed, a saxophone, flute, harp, cello, you name it.
All this culminates at appropriate moments in very sensitive, deeply sad almost classical-feeling songs such as Hjemlengsel or Solnedgang to an instrumental, musical highlight. Furthermore, a song like Sorg Og Savn, Hvil I Fred or the more than thirteen-minute Nåde songs that you should put on first, if you do not have the time or desire to immediately listen to the entire record. The reason for this is that the black metal foundation is still very noticeable in these types of songs. For example, it is best to listen to the diversity in the drumming. Often a somewhat jazzy undertone is smoothly mixed with typical black metal elements. An analysis of the bass or synth parts will also take you to one side or the other.
Special picture if you ask me. I wouldn't call this romantic black metal now. After all, I don't feel much romance. Can of course also just be up to myself. I have often been told that that part, for me, does not seem to be so developed. This aside, this is Gjennom Meg Går Ingen Til Hvile, a good record and certainly for fans of Dismal Euphony, to which I count myself anyway. - Zware Metalen

The music available on "Gjennom meg går ingen til hvile" is in the style of the band's previous two singles. The album features a pretty big roster of session musicians, even more than on the first two singles. Some are amateurs, some are more known people.
Stein Akslen has done extensive field-recordings out in nature to supplement the compositions on the album. He comments: «That had me sleeping outside in the forests for a few nights to record an owl, and all other sounds - including wolves - are real. There are no samples at all on the album.
He adds: «In total I have been working on this album for about 6 years now. There's a lot of memories tied up on it, and it will be dedicated in loving memory to those we have lost. Some of the lyrics on the album actually dates back about 17 years, so I've used this album to really go full circle.
