Thornbound Wins Battle Of The Bands This Week On MDR!

THORNBOUND, from Oslo, Norway, wins the battle this week with 560 votes!

With heavy riffs, catchy melodies, and with influences from thrash-, death- and prog metal, Thornbound has developed an eclectic but refined sound since their conception in 2015. Drawing inspiration from bands such as Trivium, Tremonti, In Flames, Soilwork, Periphery and Testament, the band uses a combination of detuned guitars, groovy rhythms topped with powerful vocals and melodies to create a unique sound.
After forming Thornbound in 2002 and releasing a demo in 2006 as a death metal band, Thornbound was reformed in its current state in late 2015 when founding guitarist Eirik met guitarist Oddmund, and they started writing and compiling songs together in Eiriks home studio. Through combining old and new riffs with strong melodies, the two guitarists quickly felt like the project could develop into a full band. After further refining and developing different songs, they chose “As the Waters Rise”, “In Shadows” and “End of Days” to be featured in their first release, the EP “Oceans Lament” (2017).
In late 2017 and 2018 the band started searching for members to become a full band. After trying out many different musicians they finally found a great match in drummer Tommy and bass player Wilson. Tommy’s powerful playing and keen sense of groove coupled with Wilsons creative bass lines with influences far beyond metal further developed the bands distinct sound. The band was made complete by the addition of Maria on vocals at the end of 2018. With her strong voice, powerful screams and good ear for great vocal melodies she added yet another creative layer to the music.
As a full band, the decision was quickly made that new recordings were a necessity. After spending a few months arranging and refining songs, they entered the studio in May of 2019 to record two songs for release later the same year. After releasing the two songs, the next frontier for the band to conquer is the live stage and to record a full-length album.
