OVERKILL Comments On AVENGED SEVENFOLD ‘Stealing’ Their Logo

In a recent interview with Jhofffilms , OVERKILL singer Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth talked about whether he has a problem with “Christian metalcore bands” – the term the host used to clearly refer to AVENGED SEVENFOLD – “stealing” the band’s skull-bat logo.

He said:

“That’s obviously a form of flattery, to some degree.

“And the fact that those guys sell a lot of records, the fact that we’ve been mentioned in the same sentence many times now for over a decade, it gives us, let’s say a light that we wouldn’t normally get, gives us the attention we wouldn’t normally have.

“So I really don’t have any problems with any of that stuff.”

Last month, Eddie Trunk claimed that OVERKILL was “paid off” by AVENGED SEVENFOLD for the use of the logo:

“Overkill got some sort of settlement from Avenged Sevenfold over the use of their bat logo. For years, Overkill had a sort of mascot on their records that they called Chaly, which is a bat.

“And all of a sudden, when Avenged Sevenfold comes out, they had a similar bat; intentional or not, they did. Overkill were paid out on that because they had a copyright on that bat and they were paid out on it by Avenged Sevenfold.

“The terms to this day cannot be revealed and have not been disclosed. Even privately, Avenged or Overkill will not tell – I know both of them will not tell me what the settlement was. But now they can both use it. But Overkill got paid on that.”
