UNMERCIFUL Forced to Withdraw from Liberation Through Punishment Tour
Kansas death metal juggernaut UNMERCIFUL has announced they will be stepping down from their slot on the Liberation Through Punishment Tour alongside VITRIOL and WEEPING .
The band released an official statement explaining the decision:
“Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have to cancel our tour with Vitriol and Weeping that we were so looking forward to being a part of. With such short notice, we were not able to find a drummer to fill in for the tour. We apologize to Vitriol, Weeping, the promoters and most of all to our fans.
We will be back out on the road to support Devouring Darkness as soon as we possibly can.
Make sure and DO NOT miss this tour! Vitriol and Weeping will crush the stage at every show!!”
While the cancellation is a disappointment for fans who were ready to catch UNMERCIFUL’s brand of savage death metal live, the band isn’t slowing down. They’re still confirmed for the 2026 Maryland Deathfest , promising a full-force return when they hit the stage again.
Their latest album, Devouring Darkness , out now via Willowtip Records , showcases the band at their most violent and precise. Ten tracks of pure sonic obliteration, filled with blistering blast beats, twisted riffing, and technical punishment, the record proves why UNMERCIFUL remains a pillar of American death metal brutality.
Critical Acclaim for Devouring Darkness :
“Devouring Darkness is an unceasing beatdown of a death metal album where technicality takes a backseat to brutality.” – Angry Metal Guy
“Malicious guidance does well to hold their focus tight on bludgeoning brutal death metal here, an ideal ratio of unreal skill and severe impact.” – Mystification Zine
“Unmerciful are among us to blast our ears with Brutal Death Metal at its finest.” – The Headbanging Moose
“A swirl of riffs will wrap themselves around you like a coiled snake, and the drums will cave your head in.” – Dead Rhetoric
Featuring the return of longtime member Jeremy Turner on guitar and the debut of Josh Riley on vocals, Devouring Darkness marks a renewed era of wrath and precision for UNMERCIFUL. The album was engineered and produced by Clinton Appelhanz at Waveworks Studio, mastered by Alan Douches (Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal), and features artwork by Santiago Francisco Jaramillo .
While the road detour may have slowed them down temporarily, there’s no doubt UNMERCIFUL will return with a vengeance. Fans can expect more devastating live performances soon—and in the meantime, Devouring Darkness is the perfect soundtrack to the chaos.
