MEZMERIZER Collaborates with World-Famous Sculptor

Experimental groove metal band Mezmerizer has teamed up with renowned sculptor Jens Galschiøt to create a visually stunning music video for their track "Heretical Dependency," premiering on February 10, 2025. This collaboration marks a powerful intersection of music and art, with the band incorporating Galschiøt's provocative sculptures to emphasize the song's themes of pollution and environmental degradation.

Guitarist Flemming Goldberg-Larsen shares: "Galschiøt is a firebrand artist known for his activism. He often works with organizations like Amnesty International and political figures from the EU to spotlight injustices, particularly human rights violations. His sculptures speak to the heart of societal problems, which is why we reached out to him for this project. Our track ‘Heretical Dependency’ focuses on pollution, an area of activism close to Galschiøt’s heart."

Mezmerizer's approach to addressing pollution is anything but typical. While environmental issues have been addressed in metal for decades, Goldberg-Larsen emphasizes the band's desire to expose Denmark’s own environmental shortcomings: "In Denmark, it's easy to point fingers at corrupt leaders in other countries. But what people don’t realize is that Denmark, despite its reputation as the ‘greenest’ country, is the second-largest producer of oil and gas in the EU. Our farmers have polluted the seas beyond repair without the kind of investments required to clean it up."

The video’s unique blend of live footage and Galschiøt’s sculptures uses a cartoon-like effect, further accentuating the environmental message. However, Goldberg-Larsen humorously admits the irony of using AI in the video creation: "It’s a bit of a bummer that we used AI in a video about environmental issues when AI consumes so much energy. But it’s all part of the process of learning and growing."

Ultimately, the collaboration reflects Mezmerizer’s willingness to embrace imperfection and engage in conversations about global issues, alongside the incredible work of an artist respected by both political ends of the spectrum.
