The vibrant UK metal scene's dynamic contributors, Broken Calling, have unleashed their most anthemic and heaviest release to date: 'VIRUS.' The Metalcore track serves as an energetic commentary on the plague of social media's influence on modern lives.
The creative process behind 'VIRUS' was an altogether different experience for Broken Calling. A significant factor was the addition of vocalist Tanzy Velane. Reflecting on this transformation, the band shared, "It was a very different process this time around. Because of the fact that we have added Tanzy to the band. The song was more or less written when she joined us, so she came in and totally turned the song on its head, in the best way possible."
Broken Calling's methodology always focuses on creating music that resonates with their audience. They strive to craft tunes that people can "sing, dance and mosh to." The spark often begins with guitarist Martin's massive riffs, and the band throws in various parts, including Jack's drums and samples. "Then once we get it to a point where we are happy. Off to the studio!" they revealed.
'VIRUS' is not merely a Metalcore track; it's a scathing critique of the impact social media has on authenticity. The song resonates with the anger and attitude synonymous with Broken Calling and serves as a rallying cry for truth.
"Lyrically the song is about how social media has conditioned us to beg for attention. I don't think anyone hasn't secretly wished that 500 people would like their holiday snaps or whatever they want us to care about. People need to know that there is more to life than what's on your Tik Tok or Instagram feed," the band stated.
Acknowledging the growth in their sound and style, Broken Calling sees 'VIRUS' as a landmark in their discography. "It's definitely our heaviest release to date. We always ebb and flow with what we write as it's more about how we feel rather than what genre we write. Keeps us on our toes and lets us play around with different elements," they explained.
This release sets the stage for their performance at the esteemed Bloodstock Festival, further solidifying their presence in the Metal scene.
Broken Calling's expectation from 'VIRUS' is clear and straightforward: they want fans to connect through energetic participation. "By banging their heads. Singing along. Going mental in the Pit. And just having fun," they said.
The track, recorded by Mykey Kew at Rogue Recording Studios, captures every note and lyric with impeccable clarity, ensuring fans of 'I Prevail,' 'In This Moment,' 'Architects,' and 'Beartooth' will relish this fresh, reinvigorated sound.
With 'VIRUS,' Broken Calling challenges the artificiality perpetuated by social media and calls for a return to authenticity. It's a bold step in their musical journey, blending raw intensity, insightful commentary, and an invitation to let loose and embrace the true self. It's not just a track; it's a rebellion against pretense and a celebration of genuine human connection.
