Anne Erickson of Audio Ink Radio recently conducted an interview with Greek guitar virtuoso Gus G. , well known in rock and metal circles for his work as Ozzy Osbourne 's guitarist and as leader of his own band FIREWIND . You can now listen to the chat below.
Asked about the title of his latest solo album, "Fearless" , Gus said: "It was just one of those titles that I had that I liked, probably because that instrumental piece was so demanding that I was writing, so I was, like, 'Well, I shouldn't hold back and just do it.' Overall, it's a good thing to live by, because this is what keeps us people behind from having some success in whatever we choose to do in life. People are, basically, scared of failing, I guess, they're scared of failure, so a lot of people don't even actually get to try to do what they wanna do in their life. So that's kind of the general meaning behind it."
Gus also talked about the importance of social media when it comes to promoting your music. "Social media is everything; that's all there is," he said. "Of course, you have to do press and reach through other avenues as well, but on a daily basis, that's how you reach your audience, that's where your audience is. If you wanna say something and reach your fanbase, that's the way to do it in 2018. That's the way it has been for the last at least six or seven years. And that's really cool. Hopefully you have enough of an audience where you can go out there and promote your music and let 'em know where you're playing. Especially for younger artists, I would say it's the most important thing, because that's how you build an audience these days as well. [There's] a big metal community on all social media platforms — Instagram … It's pretty crazy on Instagram , actually; that's where it's at. Facebook too, but Facebook is considered for old people; that's what the younger generation is saying. And by older people, they mean people [over] 30, like me. [ Laughs ] But that's how fast it's moving."
"Fearless" was released on April 20 via AFM Records . The follow-up to 2015's "Brand New Revolution" marks Gus 's first release since exiting Osbourne 's band in 2017.
On "Fearless" , Gus joined forces with vocalist/bassist Dennis Ward ( PINK CREAM 69 , UNISONIC ) and drummer Will Hunt ( EVANESCENCE ).
