Krilloan is a creature of the Swedish multi-instrumentalist Klas Holmgren who in 2020 decided to create this project inspired by German power metal but, we add, also and mainly to the Scandinavian one, Finnish in particular. He recruited some musicians, asked Felipe Machado Franco to create the artwork (splendid, as a tradition of the South American artist) and recorded 5 pieces for about 20 minutes with the help of Piet Sielck (10 minutes of shame for those who do not know this sacred monster of European metal!). The result is this "Stories of times forgotten", a decidedly pleasant EP that has a flaw: the recording is too old-style. It seems to listen to a record of the 80s / 90s, with little groove on the guitars and bass, a little "full-bodied" drums (if you pass me the term) with the cymbals of volume too high and the voice of the good Alex Vantrue that seems to come from too far. I do not know if this "vintage" recording is deliberate, but it ruins the fruition of the work; what the hell, we are in 2021, not 35 years back in time! Apart from this problem (certainly not insignificant unfortunately), the power metal of Krilloan is definitely enjoyable, sparkling and fast, full of guitar solo parts of great taste and well sung, as power tradition imposes, with a high and ringing voice. Here are all the ingredients that fans of power metal of the northern European school require. Of course, we do not have an innovative product in front of us, but in this sector most people care abundantly about originality, requiring that the sound remains confined within the most canonical stylistic features that for over 30 years have won the favors of those who feed on power metal. Krilloan started out in 2020 as a solo project by Klas Holmgren. The vision was to write songs in the same spirit as the melodic power metal-, and heavy metal bands of the late nineties-early 2000: s. High speed, soaring guitar solos, thundering drums and no keyboard solos! Based around composer and guitarist, Klas Holmgren from Sweden, Krilloan quickly grew into something larger than it was meant to be. One year later, the project now features members from all over the world with Klas and long-time friend Steve Brockmann as the core. The project revolves around classic metal themes with fantasy lyrics and the debut EP, Stories Of Times Forgotten was released on May 21. In late 2020 Krilloan joined forces with Stormwarrior main man Lars Ramcke and Piet Sielck of Iron Savior who agreed to mix and master the album, Krilloan managed to get the sound they were looking for. When Felipe Machado Franco agreed to paint the cover art, they had all the pieces of the puzzle to bring the vision to life. The single “Fireborn” was released a month earlier and has been played on metal radio stations all over the world. The EP has been well received and there have been positive reviews from the international metal press. Locally in Sweden, Krilloan has done several interviews and there has been a lot of press coverage.
