Lovers of Italian metal, at least those who are older, will remember a piece entitled "Oltrisarco In The Night". Oltrislago – Aslago is one of the districts of Bolzano, the operational base of the veteran skanners, and the piece mentioned can be found both in the self-produced demo of 2004 and in the CD reissuring of "Dirty Armada" (My Kingdom Music – 2006). Claudio Pisoni (vocals) and Fabio Tenca (guitar) are the only survivors of the original line-up and after 39 years of career and 35 since the release of the first album, "Dirty Armada" in fact, they release thanks to the Label Music For The Masses, this "Greatest Hits". Fifteen pieces have been taken from the seven full-lengths released to date while the sixteenth, "Under The Grave", is brand new. That the Skanners were prepared and destined to propagate the verb of hard and pure Heavy Metal was written from the beginning. Just listen to the first three songs of the collection, those extrapolated from "Dirty Armada", to understand how much energy the quintet was able to pour on the listener: "TV Shock" and "Starlight", with their dose of Heavy "shot", testify to this. Of course, the recording of the three tracks is not flawless but, I remind you, we are talking about 1986 and at that time it was much worse. With the three songs extracted from "Pictures Of War" things change: the recording is more professional and the Skanners delight us with a sound that winks at America devoted to melodic Hard Rock with the catchy "Turn It Louder Now". If you want a piece that combines hardness and sweetness I recommend "Wild". With the two songs from "The Magic Square", namely "Undertaker" and "Metal Party", the sound becomes darker. Not knowing the record I venture the hypothesis that the combo, in 1994, was looking for rougher paths to beat. Following is two pieces extracted from "Flagellum Dei": the song of the same name is among the most beautiful pieces of this "Greates Hits", Heavy hard and rocky that is forged wonderfully around the voice of a Claudio Pisoni who dares a little more than usual "raising" the tone of the voice, while the only guitars are of normal mold but grafted effectively. There are two pieces taken from "Serial Healer": of these I want to highlight "Welcome To Hell", Heavy unleashed, well-made changes and gritty suns. Even "Factory of Steel" is represented by two pieces, the first, homonymous, settles between melodic Power Metal and certain things of Helloween, while the second, "Hard and Pure", is influenced by Judas Priest and sports a chorus that is impossible not to sing loudly, especially live. "The Eye", taken from "Temptation", ranks among the most melodic and "dreamlike" tracks of the album. In closing, as mentioned, there is the unpublished "Under The Grave". The stretch does not change much compared to the production line held by the Bolzanini: assault riffs, hints of Judas Priest and a solo that, in some ways, is unusual compared to the rhythm. If you have all the Skanners records this collection may be useless but, if you missed some, make up for it by buying "Greatest Hits". - AllAroundMetal

To celebrate the 35th discographic anniversary of the Band and the forthcoming 40th since its formation, Music for the Masses has the honor to announce the agreement with legendary Italian metallers Skanners for the release of their first Greatest Hits which goes through the Band’s whole career. Skanners are with no doubt one of the most important and representative bands of Italian Heavy Metal, one of the few deserving the definition of “Legendary”. These have always been the trademarks of the Band. The Greatest hits, produced by Music for the Masses is scheduled for release on October 22nd on cd format and features 16 tracks drawn from the entire rich Band’s repertoire, tracing an actual musical biography which will satisfy die hard fans but will also be able to attract new listeners to their musical craft. And, for this special release, a new, unreleased song entitled “Under the Grave” will be on the album.
