Chilean death metallers Weight Of Emptiness bestow upon us their sophomore album, “Conquering The Deep Cycle.” A very clear evolution and solid step forward from their debut album “Anfractuous Moments for Redemption.” And let me say wow, I wish I would have heard of these guys sooner. They are clearly a band that more people should be paying attention to. There is so much going on here, it took me a couple of listens to really fully grasp these songs. The more I listen to them, the more this band grows on me. From the opening track “Conquering” to the finial track “Deep Cycle” (I see what you did there) there are so many unique ideas covered in the entirety of this album. It reminds me a lot of a band like Enslaved, where it seems like an vast musical landscape before you, and listening to this album front to back is the only way you can really experience this journey to its fullest experience.

If I had to pick a favorite song, I might have to go with “The flame”. It’s heavy in all the right spots, it’s melodic in all the right spots. It’s just a very well written song. The dynamics of this album are what I feel truly make this a unique experience. They can effortlessly go from something that is just crushing, to something somber and a bit more melancholy, and it works. I feel like the attention to songwriting is something that is impossible to ignore. Everything seems very well thought out, everything seems to just fit together so nicely. And that is part of what I was saying earlier that makes this feel like one big journey. For folks that are looking for something a little different, something that is a bit more of an audible experience. Then this album is right up your alley, and you are doing yourself a disservice by not indulging yourself in the wonder that is this album.

If you are looking for something to really sink your teeth into, please, I cannot recommend this album enough, I know I keep saying this but I cannot over state that this is an audible journey that must not be ignored. This album, better yet this band, is for folks that are a fan of more progressive influenced metal, bands in the vein Enslaved, Primordial, and Borknager. I will have to show this band to my girlfriend after I finish writing this review, because she is one of those people, and I know she would love this band.
