After the name WEIGHT OF EMPTINESS , we find a Chilean band formed in 2012 that now bring us their third album, “Conquering The Deep Cycle”, released at the end of 2019 by Australis Records and developed throughout 2020, without being able to present it as It is due, although they participated in some online festivals. As it is never too late, we are going to take up this work and tell you a little about it, because the album is very worthwhile.
Musically they develop a progressive death metal, but intermingling various genres such as doom, black metal tints and some modern touches, creating avant-garde metal or what we call avantgarde metal, although this from the labels is already known, what if we can say is that "Invisible Mind Workers" opens the album after the orchestral "Conquering", with a high standing progressive death metal, which incorporates very forceful stanzas and techniques with epic-laden passages, where Alejandro Ruiz's guttural voice rubs shoulders with clean voices and choruses, while the guitars of Juan Acevedo and Alejandro Bravo create their own world of 100% metal riffs, interspersing them with dreamlike and very melodic passages that give it that dark and doom touch; brutal start.
And if the beginning is brutal, "Chucao" is not far behind, being one of my favorites in the work, and where they show their full-fledged being, alternating death, black and a precious central part loaded with mysticism, to which supports Mario Urra's bass and tricky guitar riffs, with percussion at the hands of Mauricio Basso and clean vocal tones that add a touch of MOONSPELL. "The Flame" is another great song, loaded with power and that rhythmic and vocal duo that give their music a special touch, being a more direct and death tune than the progressive "Lapse Of Insanity", with "Lamentos" , they leave us snippets of their language, sung in Spanish, and with a gothic air.
With “Eleven Ravens” and “Drainers”, they return to their death metal in its two aspects, the first being denser and darker, with black passages, to move on to a more progressive and gothic touch with the second cut and bring us closer to the end with the duo “Lurking Hope”, being one of the most aggressive cuts on the album and “Two Tears Alone”, another of my favorite songs, which condenses the essence of WEIGHT OF EMPTINESS in all its stylistic modalities. A great album and a group to take into account, although perhaps a complete listening makes its 12 songs a bit long, but it is a great album. - 8/10 - Necromance
