From Poland and in self-released format comes KROMHEIM , a project by the multi-instrumentalist Mikolaj Poplawski, who through this short EP, “Kromheim”, recreates a world based on melodic black metal, but with medieval and Viking references that will remind you of bands such as AMON AMARTH, DARK TRANQUILITY or ITNUVETH.
There are only four songs, but they give off enormous energy based on epic riffs and technical transitions, such as the initial duo “Prayer” and “Freedom”, with a voice doubled and darkened alternating narrated passages, or duplicates as if from an army of berserkers. In any case, Mikolaj takes us to war in a frozen north country, displaying some very striking melodies, especially in the second track, where the guitar rhythms are 100% epic. But if we talk about epicity and warriors, "Revenge" is made for the heat of battle, where keyboards increase the atmosphere in a very subtle way and the continuous galloping of percussion is mixed with a dark and guttural voice.
The cut that closes this Ep, is a heroic totem, "Storm Of The Gods", which throughout its eight minutes changes its structure, rhythms, atmosphere, creating an authentic hit, where the perfect balance between the storm and calm, war and peace come together, housing a keyboard part fitting like a glove. A great KROMHEIM Ep , which is very short and leaves you wanting more, especially when listening to “” Storm Of The Gods ”, the album's theme.
