Metal Injection is now streaming "Miniature Jimmon," the new single by Camden, New Jersey-based UNDERER - the solo project of Nick Shellenberger of Cleric and Shardik. The song is a precursor to the outfit's debut album, The Code, nearing release through Nefarious Industries at the end of the month.
"'Miniature Jimmon' might be my favorite song on the record because of how many incongruous elements it manages to cram into one piece and how often they sort of exist in their own box without much reference to what came before or is coming after. It also has the most inhuman blast beats of any track, which is obviously good. Lyrically, it's about the battle between Jimmon, the World's Tallest Man, and Miniature Jimmon, his disturbed and violent alter-ego. The inspiration was from a series of mental health incidents in my life and the lives of my loved ones, but ultimately it's about the sometimes stark and upsetting distinction between who we want and believe ourselves to be and the parts of us that we can't control."
Writes Metal Injection with the song's premiere, "Nick Shellenberger (Cleric, Shardik) is back with a completely insane new project UNDERER. I'm here to push you headfirst into that chaos with my premiere of UNDERER 's brand new song "Miniature Jimmon."

UNDERER was conceived in 2016 as an escape from the mentality of writing and performing in a collaborative setting. While the music of UNDERER explores a markedly minimal sound palette and writing style, Shellenberger's compositions are meticulously crafted with the rhythmical chaos, creepy electronics, and volatile dynamics he has refined throughout his experimental career.
The debut UNDERER full-length The Code brings together the precision of programmed drums with the experimentation of free and improvised composition, telling a harrowing tale over the course of seven acutely distressing tracks. Capturing a slice of time during a period of a few months in the summer of 2017, The Code was initially programmed in Shellenberger's home studio after which it was fully engineered, mixed, and mastered at Menegroth the Thousand Caves by Colin Marston (Gorguts, Krallice, Dysrhythmia) who provides cymbals/percussion to the track "Marlin." The cover art was created by Shellenberger.
