Although being amongst the most controversial and feared personalities of black metal, Gaahl – alias Kristian Eivind Espedal – immediately seems like the perfect gentleman when he welcomes Metal Wani’s Anne Catherine Swallow in his tour bus, right before the GAAHLS WYRD show in Weinheim.
With a cup of tea in his hand and the impression of being constantly lost in deep thoughts, he takes the time to speak about the choice of his ever-changing setlist and the honesty of his stage performance and songwriting process. He explains how he manages to combine music, painting and acting into his daily routine, how his parents influenced his path in life, why he’s not keen on seeing ‘Lords Of Chaos’ and how he manages to work with other band members though being a deeply introverted person.
Furthermore, Gaahl discusses why he never ever wrote down his own lyrics (and the weird situations this already caused in his career) and of course gives first insights into his album ‘GastiR – Ghosts Invited‘ that will be released in May. He reveals his personal views on suicide and finishes the talk with a little wine suggestion for this year.
