New Documentary Film from One Palm Productions Explores the Grit, Grind, and Glory of Five Veteran Musicians Keeping the Flame Alive

Release Date: July 19, 2025
Production Company: One Palm Productions
Filmmakers: Matt Hartnett & Tanner Poppitt

If you think the glory days of heavy rock and metal are long gone, think again. LIFERS is the no-bullshit, hard-hitting documentary shining a spotlight on five seasoned rock warriors who’ve survived the brutal ups and downs of the scene for decades — and still refuse to hang up their axes.

This isn’t your average “look back” nostalgia trip. LIFERS dives deep into the lives of five middle-aged musicians — Ruben Romano, Trevor William Church, Erik Kluiber, Nacho Maldonado, and Kip Page — who are grinding it out every day, adapting, evolving, and proving that true passion never dies. From stoner rock and doom metal to grunge and classic metal, these guys embody the enduring spirit of heavy music, blending past legacies with today’s relentless drive to create and perform.

Meet the LIFERS:

Ruben Romano: The stoner rock godfather behind Fu Manchu and Nebula, now pounding the skins with The Freeks. His thunderous beats helped define a genre and continue to shake stages worldwide.

Trevor William Church: Metal underground staple and son of legendary bassist Bill "The Electric" Church, Trevor bridges the classic and modern metal worlds with his work in Haunt and Beastmaker.

Erik Kluiber: The versatile guitarist tearing up scenes from Gypsyhawk to White Wizzard, fusing traditional heavy metal chops with fresh, dynamic riffs.

Nacho Maldonado: Psychedelic soul and grit, bringing Mezzoa’s desert rock vibes straight from San Diego’s underground.

Kip Page: Bassist extraordinaire blending bluesy, desert rock flavors from Ride The Sun and Formula 400, and a co-founder of the grassroots SoCal Heavy Jam Music Festival.

Together, they represent decades of sweat, sacrifice, and pure love for the music — navigating industry shifts, technology chaos, and changing crowds without losing a shred of authenticity.

Why You Should Care:
LIFERS isn’t just a story about surviving in the music business. It’s a brutal, honest look at perseverance, adaptation, and keeping the heavy rock and metal torch burning in an ever-shifting world. This is for the diehards, the true believers, and anyone who refuses to let the past define their future.
