Unredeemer Unleashes "Word Become Flesh": A Relentless Force in Blackened Thrash

Finland’s rising force in the metal scene, Unredeemer, has officially released their latest album, "Word Become Flesh," a crushing blend of Death Thrash and Blackened Thrash that is sure to resonate with fans of Early Lamb Of God, Goatwhore, and Skeletonwitch. This album marks a significant milestone for the band, showcasing their evolution and resilience in the face of adversity.

Unredeemer was born from the creative vision of guitarist Pekka Paasikivi, who, along with longtime friend Mikka “Nisu” Niskaala on guitar, formed the band in 2019. The lineup was completed with the addition of Saša Pul on vocals, who had recently moved to Finland from Croatia. The band quickly made a name for themselves in the Helsinki metal scene, releasing their debut EP "4-19-23" in September 2020, featuring session musicians Tuomo Ijäs on drums and Jari Parkkinen on bass.

Despite the global challenges of 2020, Unredeemer pressed on, recruiting permanent bassist Iain Huntley in 2021 and recording "Word Become Flesh" in the spring of 2022 with drummer Juoni Kurikka. The album, released on December 23, 2022, was preceded by the single "Shewolf and an Oak," which featured an accompanying music video that set the tone for the band’s aggressive and unrelenting sound.

Tragically, 2023 brought unforeseen challenges for the band. In June, drummer Jani Tossavainen, who had rejoined the band after the recording of "Word Become Flesh," passed away, leaving the band's future uncertain. Determined to honor Jani's memory, Unredeemer decided to fulfill their commitment to perform at the Pannonian Rock Festival in Croatia, enlisting the help of a session drummer.

Following the festival, bassist Iain Huntley chose to part ways with the band, prompting yet another critical decision. Refusing to back down, Unredeemer brought back Tuomo Ijäs on drums and Jari Parkkinen on bass—both of whom had contributed to the band’s debut EP. This reunion has reinvigorated the band, leading to a triumphant comeback gig and the beginning of work on new material.

With members hailing from different parts of Finland, as well as Croatia, Unredeemer brings a diverse range of influences and ideas to their music. Their shared passion for crafting intense, high-energy metal is evident in both their recordings and live performances.

Current Lineup:

    Pekka Paasikivi – Guitar
    Mika "Nisu" Niskaala – Guitar
    Jari Parkkinen – Bass
    Tuomo Ijäs – Drums
    Saša Pul – Vocals

As Unredeemer continues to push forward, they are hard at work on new material that promises to build on the ferocity and power of "Word Become Flesh." The band’s journey has been marked by resilience, and they remain committed to delivering crushing metal with a blackened edge.
