CAVALERA, the band formed by former SEPULTURA members Max and Igor "Iggor" Cavalera, has long been synonymous with extreme metal, carrying forward a legacy built on decades of relentless musical aggression. Following their successful re-recordings of "Morbid Visions" and "Bestial Devastation" in 2023, the Cavalera brothers are now revisiting another cornerstone of their early career: SEPULTURA's iconic album "Schizophrenia".
The original "Schizophrenia" album, released in 1987, marked a significant evolution in the Cavaleras' sound, refining their raw, speed-influenced style into a more mature and technical form of thrash and death metal. This June 21, Nuclear Blast Records will unleash the re-recorded version of "Schizophrenia", completing the brothers' early-days trilogy and bringing new life to this classic.
Today, CAVALERA released "From The Past Comes The Storms", the pummeling second single from the re-recorded album. The accompanying animated music video, crafted by Costin Chioreanu, visually encapsulates the song's ferocity and apocalyptic themes.
Max Cavalera describes the track as a "ferocious album opener" that embodies the pioneering spirit of the '80s metal movement. He praises Costin's video for its depiction of the cyclical nature of life, death, war, and pain, predicting that it will be a live performance favorite. Igor Cavalera echoes this sentiment, highlighting the song's raw fusion of old-school black and death metal with thrash influences.
Reflecting on the significance of the re-recording project, Max states, "The Third World Trilogy is finally complete with 'Schizophrenia', 'Bestial Devastation', and 'Morbid Visions'—all three Brazilian underground gems! To me, 'Schizophrenia' is the ultimate death/thrash experiment! This one is for all the generations to enjoy! Play at max volume!" Igor adds, "1987 was a very progressive year for metal, so it was no surprise how we approached 'Schizophrenia', pushing our boundaries from a black/death metal sound to a more thrash metal aesthetic."
The re-recorded "Schizophrenia" track listing is as follows:

The recording took place at Focusrite Room in Mesa, Arizona, with mixing and mastering by Arthur Rizk (SOULFLY, GO AHEAD AND DIE, TURNSTILE).
In addition to the music, the brothers have also revisited the album's artwork. The original cover, long a fascination for fans, has been reimagined in hand-painted watercolors by Eliran Kantor.
This summer, CAVALERA will embark on their "Third World Trilogy" tour across Europe and the UK, starting on June 12 in Leicester and wrapping up on July 21 in Switzerland.
CAVALERA is:
