Interview with Pete Devine of Pete's Rock News and Views ( http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
Eston: I would describe VULNIFICUS as a band that's aspiring to be a great and memorable part of the brutal death metal community.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
Eston: My origins in this genre come from the New York City death metal scene. Attending shows at first and then eventually playing them. I've always done vocals for all of the bands I've been apart of so that's where my background lies. Started with creating my first band Merciless Mutilation in 2004, then Humanity Falls, Animals Killing People, the list goes on.

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
Eston: The inspiration comes from my aspirations of where I'd like VULNIFICUS to go in the future, coupled with my influences. The influences are many and they range from inside and outside the genre.  When I my write my songs lyrically I like to create an atmosphere that matches the chaos of the music. Normally it's misanthropic and hateful, with lyrics that normally paint a picture of what's happened already or what's about to occur

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
Eston: My aspirations are to create classical music with my fellow bandmates that we would love to listen to as fans. As an artist, I just would like to be respected by fellow artists in this genre abroad and be able to reach as many people as possible with our music whether it be through playing live or by the internet.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
Eston: I feel that every moment in my music career has been a special moment in its own right. However, I would say that joining GIGAN was one of my proudest moments because I was a fan of the band first and being signed to New Standard Elite shortly after this band was formed. Working with a label like that is something I only dreamed of.

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
Eston: I think it's all about how you approach reaching your fans and people worldwide. There's plenty of tips and tricks of the trade at anyone's disposal. We are living in the information age, you know.....
Playing music is much like life itself. You get out of it what you put in...

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
Eston: Yes, we have a November tour scheduled with Cordyceps. It will be our first, and we're all very excited for it. It will be 8 days on the West Coast in support of our upcoming EP INEXTRICABLE.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
Eston: I'm all for it! It's how I've been exposed to many bands in the past and I'll find more that way in the future. It's a great way to bridge the gap that was hard to get over in times past. It's way more convenient and accessible to reach listeners across the globe.

PD: What song do you wish you'd written and why?
Eston: I don't have one.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
Eston: I try to maintain a positive attitude and not focus so much on what I don't like.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
Eston: Currently, we have a tour scheduled with Cordyceps with an EP coming out in November. After that, we begin working on our full length with some more shows to add after that!

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?

VULNIFICUS was formed in October 2021 with the idea of bringing death metal back to its early sounding roots.

VULNIFICUS pushed death metal back to its extreme limits with their debut "INNOMINATION", released November 26, 2021. Drawing comparisons to old Cannibal Corpse, Condemned, Defeated Sanity, Mortician and others, VULNIFICUS signed a deal with New Standard Elite and shortly released their debut single "Induced Rampage".

VULNIFICUS began to record the follow up to their debut EP in December 2021, titled "INVOCATION". "INVOCATION" which released June 10, 2022 to an overwhelming response from fans and put the brutal death community on notice with the release of their singles "Coerced Into Compliance" and "The Incredulous Invocation"

Unfortunately, the first tour in the band's history could not be completed as Wilson decided to leave the band. Shortly after, left as the sole member of VULNIFICUS, Eston recruits Jamison Parker (Prophecy of Suffering), Mike Jones on bass and Evan Daniele (Dead and Dripping) on guitar. Together with the completed lineup, VULNIFICUS prepares to debut this group for their next offering on New Standard Elite.
