Antania is a California-based duo delivering a unique combination of “Doom/Bass,” bits of Electronica, and a hearse-load of the eeries. The crushing waves of synth/bass permeating the (“riffs?”) and stylized female vocals are sometimes menacing yet also convey a sense of peril. It’s an interesting package, to say the least. At first listen, ‘Lividity’ sounds like someone is taking the “spooky-doom” thing a little too seriously. But after a while, it started to grow on me, although I’m still not entirely sure what “it” is.

With references to “ripping out eyes” and “cutting people up” and other assorted endeavors that are tame by today’s standards (Forced Gender Reassignment, anyone?) Antania’s songs are oddly effective and entertaining…to a point. Honestly, while it’s all kinda cool, it starts to run thin after about 20 minutes. In making this into a full album, I feel they have hacked off more than we can chew. The strengths lie in the instrumental passages, often conveying emotion just as well as words can. Perhaps they can focus on that.

Overall, ‘Lividity’ is more suitable for the closing credits of a Rob Zombie film or for scaring the kiddos on Halloween night than a traditional spin. Maybe give it a once over and then lay it to rest.

Doom Bass project, Antania, a merging of Doom Metal, and blackened Bass Music release “Lividity” on June 9th 2023 via Moon Coil Media. “Lividity” features tracks with Industrial Icon ERK AICRAG and horror Queen RAZAKEL. Antania is a doom/bass project from Joshua Tree CA. With a gripping aesthetic paying homage
to the “dark side of life” with a strong live show and songs written about true crime. Antania's brutal "Doom Bass' style incorporates elements of doom metal bass music and industrial. “Dr Luna '', the duo’s demented musical maestro, creates Doom/Bass solely with synthesizers and guitar distortion pedals by wrapping distortion around sub-bass.
