Behind the very strange band name R3VO is a quartet of musicians from Berlin who have dedicated themselves to progressive rock and metal and who are giving their first official sign of life with "Fireflies" these days. The foursome names MUSE, KARNIVOOL, OPETH and PORCUPINE TREE as influences and should actually have everything together to captivate today's Prog connoisseurs with the four songs of the debut EP.

And I have to admit, with the opener 'Artifical Pleasure' they succeed excellently, because starting with the varied and powerful drumming, through the electronic elements used, to the strong and at times surprisingly edgy guitar work, everything is right here. The wonderful voice of frontwoman Leo is also enthroned on this excellent instrumental foundation, which can cover pretty much everything from quiet moments to a biting rock voice and gives the song the last kick it needs to make it a real hit. 'Fireflies' takes a similar line and approaches the whole thing much groovier, but doesn't come out of the speakers any less convincingly, but digs into your ear with its fine hooks just as quickly as the great opener.

After that, however, my enthusiasm wanes a bit, because the short and concise 'Dorian Gray' turned out to be a bit too prog for me and doesn't really get to the point. 'Darling' is also a very different song that, with its dreamy melodies and melancholic mood, at least evokes memories of GENESIS in the golden seventies or STEVEN WILSON's solo project. After a slight initial disappointment, the song grows with every run and, with a little more time, even becomes another highlight of this compact EP, which unfortunately ends much too quickly with this number.

All in all, "Fireflies" is a truly impressive sign of life, despite the short playing time, which really knocked my socks off for the most part. If you like one or all of the prog giants mentioned at the beginning, then I can warmly recommend these Berliners to you, because there could definitely be an exciting prog newcomer growing up in the local underground. - PowerMetal

Short Bio: 'R3VO is the project that should be on your radar. The Prog Rock/Metal band has made a name for itself in Berlin’s underground scene. Influenced by powerhouses such as Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Muse, and Karnivool, the four-piece is a combination of technical ability and raw energy. Sonically they are recognized for their use of catchy guitar riffs, dramatic vocals, and the irresistible grooves of the drum and bass duo. R3VO’s Electro-Prog Metal song “Artificial Pleasure” was featured on Metal Hammer in their “The 10 best new metal songs you need to hear right now” article of June 2022, as well as in the magazines Kaaoszine and Heavy Australia.'
