OTARGOS - Fleshborer Soulflayer - Reviewed by metalopenmind ! Check it out here at this link: https://metalopenmind.blogspot.com/2022/08/otargos-fleshborer-soulflayer-2021.html
Killer riffs, dissonant chords, inhuman vocals, and dizzying speed are some of the attributes of the latest long-running studio work by the French quartet Otargos . Although this is my first contact with their music (promo sent by Zach from Metal Devastation PR in November 2021), I just found out through the band's official youtube channel that 13 years ago they were doing their first tour on national soil, including having their first albums released here. A lot has changed in his career since then, and his initial sound (old school black metal) evolved into some of the best produced, bold, and incisive technical blackened death metal in Europe, easily equaling names like Behemoth, Vader or even even to his fellow Deathspell Omega.
Among the novelties of the new album Fleshborer Soulflayer we have the precise and fast rhythmic execution of Michael Martin (ex-Exocrine, ex-Fleshdoll) on drums, and the return of guitarist Astaroth who had recorded 3 albums with the group between 2007 and 2010. The quartet's technical mastery impresses from the first seconds of the hyper fast Incursion of Chaos (check it out in the official video below) to the more cadenced Sentinel that closes the album. Altogether there are about 35 minutes of overwhelming music extreme (10 songs including the intro Rise of the Abomination and the other Warp), marked by unexpected rhythmic changes, pauses (!) and well-placed guitar solos, and a melodic sensibility rare in groups of this sonic caliber. Guitarist Dagoth's vocal registers are also noteworthy, well placed and varied, through sound effects and clever phrasing of the lyrics, making some words noticeable and memorable, something unusual in the genre.
The novelty was launched in December last year by the independent publisher Xenocorp , and is available on CD, LP and K7 only in French territory. Despite not being an assiduous listener of extreme music, this work caught my attention, and deserves to be highlighted, especially for those who follow the restricted niche of extreme music in Brazil. After all, we have Krisiun as one of the pillars of the genre, national pride, and one of the most respected representatives (post Sepultura) worldwide. Yes, if you like Krisiun, you will surely know how to appreciate Ortagos ! Fleshborer Soulflayer it is an excellent work that enhances this highly sought-after lode, and can/should be checked out in full and/or downloaded in mp3 through the bandcamp of its current publisher in the player below. - metalopenmind

The Korporation is proud to announce French Dark Extreme Metalers OTARGOS will raise multidimensional Hell for the 7th time with new album "Fleshborer Soulflayer" on Dec.10.
Marking the first studio recording with the band for new drummer Michael Martin (ex-EXOCRINE, ex-FLESHDOLL) and the return of former guitarist Astaroth that previously appeared on the band's 2007 to 2011 recordings, "Fleshborer Soulflayer" pushes the band's now trademark cosmic Blackened Death Metal sound ing even further in terms of brutality, heaviness and deconstruction sounding like a space-time travel through a black hole!
Again produced at France's Vamacara studio (Mercyless, Savage Annihilation...), the album will be released on a variety of formats including CD, vinyl, cassette & digital versions with a first single / music video made available for preorders launch on September 15.
