STELLAGEN - From Dying Stars - Reviewed By Dmitriy Churilov ! Check it out below!
Sydney based trio Stellagen rip this spring with their album From Dying Stars, an unrelenting sonic assault and an ultimate heavy metal standard.
From the moment of its inception the act has established itself as the preachers of true metal, while managing to escape the curse of repeating the same old song from twenty years ago and writing some actually interesting songs. And not just that, but another notorious setup fact: there is no drummer in the band.
But who needs it with guitars like that! The degree of shredding and bursting solos exceed all reasonable limits and go way beyond to the realms of progressive and sometimes even avant garde metal (Jimmy Lardner-Brown was included in the live line up of Paul Di’Anno, so we are talking about the big leagues here). One might even have associations with Dragonforce, but Stellagen turns out to be even more interesting and technical.
Musically it’s a crossbreed of all the best dark crafts - heavy, black, death and even power metal unite to create an untamed beast. The album in whole leaves the aftertaste of epic controlled madness - really, you can’t imagine the guitar work here and just have to give Lost in Hyperspace or Stellar Genesis (an insane neo classical piece) a listen to get it, and I’d like to put emphasis on this. The sound of the release is saturated and abrasive, the combination of clean vocals and grunting/screaming is surprisingly organic and well mixed.
From Dying Stars is quite a unique album, massive and beautiful in it’s complexity, the thing in itself aiming to catch no trends but rather to capture the moment and the feeling and meditate it through an extreme output. - Dmitriy Churilov

STELLAGEN formed in Sydney, Australia in 2019 with the simple goal of making metal they wanted to listen to: heavy yet melodic, with memorable choruses and shredding guitar solos, incorporating elements from death/ black metal but with the sense of melody and catchiness of power metal in both the vocals and guitars.
STELLAGEN features Phil Brown (Vocals/ Guitars), Jimmy Lardner-Brown (Guitars) and Symon Haddad (Bass) with session drums provided by Robin Stone.
The vocals range from death/ black metal growls and screams on one end of the spectrum to melodic clean (yet still 'raw') vocals on the other, with a focus on ensuring each song has a memorable 'hook'. A key feature of the band's style is also the guitar harmonies and interplay between twin brothers Phil and Jimmy, which is backed up by the solid rhythm section of Symon and Robin. Lyrical concepts include real life experiences, literature, and sci-fi/ fantasy.
STELLAGEN's debut album 'From Dying Stars', released 22/02/2022, is the first part of a musical concept, with the counterpart second album set for release later in 2022.
'From Dying Stars' is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and all other streaming platforms.
