The black metal band Appalachian Winter started in Schellsburg, Pennsylvania in 2008. In the last ten years since they formed they released four full lengths (Ghosts of the Mountains, The Epochs that Built the Mountains, The Lake and the Mountain, and From the Cosmos to the Mountains) and a split album with a band called Draumar (Bergleider), all available on Nine Gates Records from Columbus, Ohio. Appalachian Winter’s black metal is described by founding member-writer-composer Daniel Klyne as being “physically taxing” but he and the band have enough energy to create into their thirties. Klyne talks about the band and their environment , his plans to record more CDs with them and other projects he has an interest in pursuing. This interview was conducted by Daniel M. Ryan (Transylvanian Forest e-zine, Strings of Distorted Doom, Mors Omnibus).
