Following the success of 2017’s Return to Roots tour, Max and Igor Cavalera decided to revisit their earlier material and begin touring in support of their albums Beneath The Remains and Arise. Ahead of their Australian run of shows, Metal Wani had the chance to catch up with Max Cavalera to discuss the tour, the importance of these records, how the fans have bee receiving the shows so far, and much more. The conversation opens up by discussing the upcoming ‘Beneath the Remains and Arise’ tour and how surprised Max was to be returning to Australia so soon after their last tour, something which Max speaks of with keen interest, stating “Eventually at some point we are going to stop that too (the Beneath the Remains and Arise touring), so it’s just for a certain time so I think it’s a special thing we do in a special time, at a special place, and Australia is definitely a special place we want to bring this tour for”. Max also adds in some of his own excitement about the tour, and what the Australian fans can expect by stating that “it’s just a really powerful show, it’s really really cool how the songs of those two albums together really represent an era in our life, and it’s really good to celebrate that with the fans”. Shifting the conversation onto the two albums more broadly and their importance in Cavalera’s legacy and also how the albums have become synonymous with people and their love of music, Cavalera opens up about the records. “It’s imprinted on people’s DNA, these albums are soundtracks of people’s lives” Cavalera reflects before addressing the importance of the records to himself and then touching on the difficulty in relearning some of the older material for these shows. The conversation then transitions to Max’s love of metal, and delves into some of the bands that Max has been listening to currently, before taking a deeper look into his love of the fans, and his thoughts on recent comments made about Meet and Greets and whether he feels forced to do them to earn money due to theft of music. The conversation then closes out by discussing Max’s remaining plans, and whether new music is on the horizon in 2019.
