The underground metal scene is constantly evolving, and some of the most exciting new bands are the ones willing to push boundaries, embrace creativity, and do things their own way. Montreal, Quebec's BITTER is one of those bands.

Recently, The Zach Moonshine Show welcomed Yan Chatel (Bass & Backing Vocals) and Kilian Langlois-Chatel (Lead Vocals) of BITTER for a conversation about the band's formation, their upcoming Slamosaurus Rex EP, their signing with CDN Records , and their mission to bring crushing beatdown deathcore to the masses.

Building BITTER From The Ground Up

Formed in 2024, BITTER has quickly started making waves with their massive blend of slam, beatdown, and deathcore influences. While the band may be relatively new, the passion and experience behind the project run deep.

For Yan Chatel, BITTER represents a chance to finally build something completely authentic.

Working in the video game industry for years made it difficult to dedicate the necessary time to music, but as life changed, the opportunity came to invest more energy into creating something heavy. That journey became even more meaningful when his son, Kilian, became involved and developed his own passion for extreme vocals.

What started as a father and son musical connection quickly evolved into a full band with a clear vision.

Slamosaurus Rex and the Rise of BITTER

BITTER's upcoming EP Slamosaurus Rex represents the next major step for the band. Combining brutal breakdowns, massive grooves, and a unique sense of personality, the release showcases a band that is not interested in simply following trends.

The digital release is scheduled for September 1, with physical editions including vinyl and CDs planned as well.

The band decided to invest further into their physical releases, including special vinyl options and unique ideas designed to create a memorable experience for fans.

One of the most creative ideas discussed was including special golden tickets inside select vinyl copies, giving fans a chance to receive lifetime access to BITTER shows.

It is exactly the type of outside-the-box thinking that helps underground bands stand out in today's music landscape.

Signing With CDN Records

BITTER's partnership with CDN Records was another major milestone for the band.

Yan explained that he had followed CDN Records for years and respected the label's approach to supporting unique and promising artists. After consistently reaching out and sharing the band's music, the connection eventually came together.

For BITTER, having a label believe in the project was a major moment.

As Yan explained, it is not something the band takes for granted. Having someone willing to invest their own time and resources into the music is a powerful validation that the hard work is paying off.

CDN Records has continued building a roster focused on fresh, modern heavy music, and BITTER fits perfectly into that vision.

The Slamosaurus Encounter: A DIY Approach

One of the standout moments from BITTER's recent releases is the music video for "The Slamosaurus Encounter."

The video combines humor, creativity, and a DIY spirit that perfectly represents the band's personality.

Instead of spending a massive budget on production, BITTER created something unique using creativity and resourcefulness. The band filmed outdoors, incorporated costumes, and even used Rock Band-style instruments after weather conditions made using their actual gear impossible.

What could have been a setback became part of the charm.

The result is a fun, memorable video that proves you do not always need a huge budget to create something that connects with fans.

Investing In Your Band

One of the biggest topics discussed during the interview was the importance of treating a band like more than just a hobby.

Yan shared advice for younger bands trying to break through: believe in your music, but also be willing to invest time, effort, and resources into making it happen.

The band is preparing for live appearances alongside acts including AngelMaker, Ingested, and Larcenia Roe, while also planning additional shows and future releases.

Formed in December 2024, Bitter is a slamming beatdown deathcore band hailing from Montreal, Lanaudière, and Gatineau, Quebec. The project began as a father-and-son vision between Yan Chatel and Kilian Langlois-Chatel before expanding into a full lineup united by a shared obsession with extreme music and uncompromising heaviness.
