It’s a story as old as time itself, get inspired by a band/musician, get your hands on an instrument, begin practising, find like minded friends, form a band, play covers, write your own music and lead the way up to the Holy Grail of youth. The demo tape. Undoubtedly, this is the process which Goat Blood Fetish (GBF) went through as the Michigan based black/death metallers release their first ever demo ‘Annihilation of a Priest’.
As a demo tape, ‘Annihilation of a Priest’ does exactly what it needs to do and that is show exactly what GBF are fully capable of. It is a snapshot in time of where the band are now as beat their way through five tracks of blackened death metal which clocks in at just over 20 minutes. Yes, because it is a demo, don’t expect any more than demo quality with a production, but ultimately, this plays deep into the hands of GBF who wear their influences on their sleeve as tracks such as ‘Cover the Earth in Blood’, ‘My Blood is Goat Blood’ and the title track all show these guys worshipping at the altar of Darkthrone and Watain whilst pushing into the realms of Behemoth and Wolves in the Throne Room.
‘Annihilation of a Priest’ is a band planting some firm roots in the ground and beginning to grow. If you like blackened death metal, then there will be plenty to get your teeth into here and it will be interesting to see what GBF do next. - Metal Digest
