The waves crash against the shore again. Gently they knock, they roll over, intertwine and wash over the beach. If you listen closely, you can hear the shells in the foam, rattling feather- light over the coarse sand. You guessed it right: Fooks Nihil are back with their second studio album titled Tranquility out on March 18, 2022 on Unique Records.
The sound of the West Coast is knocking again. And it has become deeper, the songwriting is more sophisticated. The sound ranges from surf-twangy guitar lines to fuzzy ecstasies. The rhythm section seems much fuller and livelier than on the debut album. At times the drums drum up casual driving rhythms that lead into true surf and beat hymns. The band has evolved. The unusual composition seems consolidated and mature, the music all in all a touch more modern.
Fooks Nihil - C.A. Walking (official video)
After a long wait over the heavy Corona months with busy pressing plants, the new album Tranquility can finally be released on March 18, 2022. on Unique Records. Once again, the mix was put in the care of the sensitive sensibilities of Glenn Brigman from Los Angeles, who puts his fingerprint on the work unmistakably tasteful.
Tranquility begins powerfully with Pictures Of You, which combines many of the typical features of the band and brings a new, unexpected facet. A crunchy riff meets a laid-back rhythm, polyphonic vocals and even some Latin elements are reflected in the use of percussion and the all-Spanish lyrics of the chorus. Over the following ten tracks, Fooks Nihil continue what they started with their debut album, cementing their West Coast beat once and for all in the listener's musical memory. What clearly stands out is the musical diversity of the record. Drummer Maximilian Schneider, bassist Florentin Wex and guitarist Max Ramdohr tell their personal stories in wayward compositions that together make for a wonderful journey through the blend of surf beat and neo-psychedelia with West Coast vocal harmonies that makes this band so distinctive.
