Ohio doom/atmospheric metal unit CLOSE THE HATCH will release their Modern Witchcraft full-length next month via Red Moth Records.
Independent of strict classification, yet beholden to the lineage of conceptual metal, CLOSE THE HATCH stride confidently in the footsteps of post and doom metal heavyweights like Neurosis and Isis yet emote with a conviction that's distinctly their own. With six studio albums under their proverbial belts since their 2011 conception, CLOSE THE HATCH has shown continual evolution in sound and structure, exploring darker avenues of punishing riffs while seamlessly intertwining atmosphere, melody, and ethereal elements over the course of their musical output.
Modern Witchcraft was produced by the band with Micah Carli (Hawthorne Heights), engineered by Carli and CLOSE THE HATCH guitarist Shaun O, and mixed and mastered by Carli with cover art by Matthew Mills [
mattmillsart.com ]. In advance of the record's release, the band is pleased to unveil opening psalm "Death Of Wolves" noting, "This track is about fighting your internal dialog; the self-doubt that comes from taking risks. All the worry about how you will be perceived by others for doing something you, in your heart, know is what you'd like to do. The unrealized dream... 'Death Of Wolves' is about removing those levels of doubt to just do the thing you want to do regardless of the reception. It opens the record because it's essentially whole concept behind the record and the band's shift in style."
Modern Witchcraft will be released on CD and digitally on May 22nd via Red Moth. For preorders visit the CLOSE THE HATCH Bandcamp page at
