Tobias Forge says that GHOST will do "absolutely zero touring" in 2020 while he takes the time to work on the band's next studio album.
The Swedish rock act has spent the past year and a half touring in support of its latest LP, 2018's "Prequelle" . The disc was nominated for a Grammy Award as "Best Rock Album", and for Sweden's Grammis award as "Best Rock/Metal Record Of The Year".
Asked in a new interview with Herald-Whig if he has GHOST 's next year mapped out already, Forge said: "Yes. There will be very little touring. To be specific, it's going to be absolutely zero touring in 2020. We have one show in February, and that's going be in a country that to the south of the U.S., and that will be it, that's the only show we're doing, and that's going to be the wrap-up of this tour cycle. The year is going to be spent making a new record, a new record that will come out in 2021, the beginning of 2021, and then we're looking at 18 months of touring again. Next year is going to be, at least from a touring point of view, off. But there's going to be a lot of other things happening, so be sure that you're going to see plenty from GHOST next year."
Last month, Forge said in an interview with "Loudwire Nights" that he already has the concept for GHOST 's next album in mind — and that it came to mind just as "Prequelle" was about to come out back in June 2018.
Forge explained: "I'd say that there was a moment just about around the release of 'Prequelle' where on one of the promo trips, it sort of fell in place to what I wanted to do with the next album."
He continued: "Usually, there are a few things that go in tandem for me to sort of solidify an idea in my head and it doesn't necessarily have to do with music. It's more like a, 'Oh, this is a title of the record,' or, 'This is a feel of the record' and how that plays into what I want to do as a stage presentation."
The 38-year-old musician added: "So, for a year, little over a year now, I've been fine-tuning that, and that is definitely taken shape and we're sticking with that script, going into making the record at the beginning of next year."
Earlier this month, GHOST kicked off another North American tour in support of "Prequelle" . The trek will wrap on October 26 in Glens Falls, New York.
Two weeks ago, GHOST released a surprise new single, "Kiss The Go-Goat" , along with an accompanying video that channels a heavy 1960s psychedelic vibe. The song will be included on a new limited-edition seven-inch single which will be released on September 27. "Kiss The Go-Goat" will be backed by another new song, "Mary On A Cross" .
