Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals’ New Zealand Shows Cancelled Over Apparent Concerns With Anselmo’s ‘White Power’ Incident

Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals ‘ planned shows in Christchurch and Auckland, NZ later this month have been cancelled. A report on Stuff , has word that the decision to scrap the shows came about as a result of concerns with Anselmo ‘s usage of racist gestures and remarks at the 2016 ‘ Dimebash ‘ event. Anselmo later apologized for his actions numerous times, and discussed the incident in this 2016 interview .

Hard stances against racism and white supremacy within New Zealand have been elevated to new heights after a gunman went on a killing spree at two mosques in Christchurch, NZ this past week, killing 50 people and wounding 50 more. Various reports and findings since have since stated that the shooter harbored white supremacist-related ideals.

Promoter Ben Mulchin of Valhalla Touring , who were involved with the planned Anselmo shows, in part stated via social media:

“I just want to address this point right away – we would never book anyone with ‘white power’ or ‘white power politics’, or any other silly political agendas. No way. We need to make that very very clear – as music is our livelihood.

Phil Anselmo had an indiscretion a few years back while under the influence of substances that is widely documented; by making a very hurtful remark and idiotic gesture.

I honestly don’t think Phil is racist but regardless he has committed a pretty terrible act in 2016.”

Mulchin went on to say that he has been looking into donating profits from the potentially rescheduled shows to the families of those affected by the shootings. Via ThePRP
