OPHIOLATRY BRINGS THE DISTURBING WORLD OF “JESUS COMPLEX” TO THE STAGE WITH NEW LIVE VIDEO

Brazilian Extreme Metal Veterans Unleash a Theatrical Live Performance of Their Award-Recognized Track from Serpent’s Verdict

Brazilian extreme metal force Ophiolatry has released an official live video for “Jesus Complex,” capturing the band's intense performance at Franco do Rock Festival in Franco da Rocha, São Paulo, Brazil. Bringing the disturbing visual universe of their original music video from the screen to the stage, the new release combines relentless extreme metal with theatrical imagery, unsettling masks, and a dark cinematic atmosphere.

Originally featured as the opening track on Ophiolatry's 2025 album Serpent’s Verdict , “Jesus Complex” takes on a new dimension in this live performance. The band recreates the song's unsettling visual concept in front of a live audience, transforming its themes and imagery into an immersive experience that blurs the boundaries between music, storytelling, and theatrical performance.

Watch “Jesus Complex” Live at Franco do Rock Festival:

The original “Jesus Complex” music video explored themes of imposed identity, conformity, manipulation, and the loss of individuality through a disturbing narrative in which characters inhabit a world where everyone wears the same sad Jesus mask. As the story unfolds, the protagonist discovers that he, too, has become part of the reality he once observed from the outside.

For the live version, Ophiolatry brings the concept into the physical world. The masks, originally designed and created for the music video, return to the stage, allowing the band to expand the song's narrative through visual performance and atmosphere.

The original “Jesus Complex” music video received a Badge of Honor from the Berlin Music Video Awards 2026 , recognizing the band's visual creativity and commitment to pushing the boundaries of extreme metal presentation.

The release follows a period of renewed momentum for Ophiolatry, whose comeback album Serpent’s Verdict marked the band's first full-length release in seventeen years. Released through WormHoleDeath Records and mastered by renowned producer Dan Swanö (Opeth, Dissection, Dark Funeral), the album reaffirmed the band's place in the international extreme metal underground while exploring themes rooted in indigenous Amazonian spirituality, ancestral identity, and resistance.

With the new live video for “Jesus Complex,” Ophiolatry continues expanding the visual identity of Serpent’s Verdict , proving that the band's artistic vision extends beyond the recording studio and into a live experience that is as unsettling as it is uncompromising.
