Mephisto Odyssey / Wayne Static “CRASH: REBORN”  Collaboration To Be Featured In Unauthorized Documentary

The momentum surrounding the unauthorized documentary about Wayne Static continues to build as a major musical contribution has officially been confirmed. The reimagined version of “Crash: REBORN” by Mephisto Odyssey—led by Mikael Johnston—will be featured in the upcoming film.

The track has already made a significant impact with fans, amassing over 900,000 views in just two months and continuing to gain tens of thousands of views daily, signaling strong demand and renewed interest in previously unheard collaborations connected to Static’s legacy.

Johnston, a longtime friend and collaborator of Static, originally co-wrote “Crash” with the late singer. In addition to their work on the track, Johnston also remixed multiple songs for Static-X, including “Push It” and “Cold,” further cementing his creative connection to the band’s signature sound.

Following news of the controversial documentary, Johnston reached out to director Matt Zane to discuss the project in depth.

“The first time Matt and I spoke about the film we were on the phone for 3 hours. I love the fact that he wants to make the film through Wayne's words, pulling from videos and interviews he did throughout the years,” said Johnston.

After several conversations, Johnston agreed to allow the use of “Crash: REBORN” in the film—marking a notable addition amid ongoing resistance from estates and former band members regarding unreleased material.

“It’s amazing we’re getting some more actual Wayne Static singing in the movie thanks to Mikael,” said Zane. “It just adds to the overall feel of the story.”

The inclusion of “Crash: REBORN” provides fans with a rare opportunity to hear Static’s voice in a new context, reinforcing the documentary’s aim to tell his story through authentic archival elements and previously unreleased collaborations.
