Friday, August 15th, 2025 marked a milestone for East Tennessee’s rising psychedelic doom crew NinjaWitch . The band joined The Zach Moonshine Show on Metal Devastation Radio for an exclusive live interview, powered by the upcoming Tennessee Metal Devastation Music Fest 2025 , and unleashed their brand-new track “Star Ghost” on the world.
Right out the gate, Zach dropped the debut of Star Ghost for listeners across the globe. The response was unanimous—pure devastation in the best way. “That is a killer track, man. We just played it live on the show, for the first time, for the whole goddamn planet of devastation. Everybody heard it, everybody loved it,” Zach declared. The band’s excitement was clear: “We’re really proud of the new EP for sure.”
The band opened up about the making of their upcoming EP Frequency of Gods , which drops September 12th. Shout-outs went to Danielle at Wizard Productions for helping capture the raw energy of NinjaWitch’s sound. “She was a real one… it was such a spiritual experience being in that studio,” they said, describing the live, all-in-the-room recording approach that gave the album its cosmic energy.
Guitarist Herb emphasized how intentional the process was: “I wanted to capture the trip. We recorded together in a room because that’s how we write, and it just sounds alive.” Bandmate Brandon added: “Hearing Nate’s vocals raw in the studio gave me chills. It completely changed the way I connected with the songs.”
Vocalist Nate peeled back the veil on the new track’s themes: “It’s about space, loss, gain, overcoming, and creation.” In classic stream-of-consciousness fashion, he shared how the lyrics often arrive in bursts of inspiration: “The first time we jammed it, I stepped outside, did my thing, came back in, and laid down the lyrics in one go. That was it.”
Nate revealed that the song also touches on a strange phenomenon he experiences nightly: “I wake up at 3 a.m. and hear this hum… turns out it’s a global thing called the ‘Tulsa Hum.’ That’s what one of the lyrics is about—laying there, hearing the hum, trying to figure it out. The frequency of which God is trying to reach me.”
NinjaWitch aren’t just bringing the doom to Tennessee Metal Devastation Music Fest 2025 —members Herb and John will also be pulling double duty with their other band, Summoner Circle. “We’re good at double duties,” they joked, already looking forward to the inevitable post-fest Waffle House congregation.
The band’s influences range from stoner legends like Monster Magnet, Kyuss, and Sasquatch, to the godfathers Black Sabbath. Herb even shared a formative experience: “I saw Randy Rhoads live just weeks before he passed. That’s why I picked up the guitar. It was life-changing.” He also recalled seeing Ozzy Osbourne on the legendary Diary of a Madman tour: “It was the biggest show I had ever seen at the time. The castle set, the performance—it blew me away. That’s when I knew I wanted to do this.”
Her also added: “The first album I ever bought was Black Sabbath’s Master of Reality. The first concert I ever went to was Ozzy and Sabbath on the Never Say Die tour. Everything we do as metalheads goes back to that moment.”
Zach and the band agreed on Ozzy’s impact, reflecting on his energy even into the reunion years: “I saw Sabbath in ’99, and Ozzy’s energy was unbelievable. He was jumping around like a frog, getting the whole crowd going. It was one of the best metal performances I’ve ever witnessed.”
With Frequency of Gods on the horizon, NinjaWitch are keeping momentum alive with shows at Doomfest in Knoxville, Rage at the Ridge in Bristol, and of course, TMDMF 2025. Pre-orders for the EP launch August 21st exclusively via Bandcamp, with Star Ghost available immediately to supporters. Vinyl might even be in the cards down the road.
When asked to cut a station tag for Metal Devastation Radio, the band summed up their vibe perfectly: “Come get cosmic with NinjaWitch on Metal Devastation Radio. Space in your face!”
