That crazy Joey Veerbeek doesn't know how to stop with his goat milker project; and thank goodness! The previous two Goatmilker albums date back a while ago, with clear progression between the first and second albums. However, it's been almost five years since Swamp Of Desecration appeared, and I didn't know for a long time if it would get a sequel. Maybe Joey himself wasn't either, he was also quite busy with, well, say, life - marriage, offspring, Caedere, you know it. I was quite happy when I was told that a new Goatmilker was coming.

A few days ago Exterminate The Holy was released, and it turned out that it would even be released by a label (the Polish Via Nocturna). It fits in perfectly with the development that the 'band' Goatmilker is going through. Of course I have listened back to the previous albums 'for a while', and read what I wrote about them, and then I very quickly come to the conclusion that the aforementioned progression continues very hard. Both compositionally, musically-technically and in production terms, Joey / Goatmilker has made great strides again. I already give that conclusion as a gift.

Joey has also done things a little differently this time. Where on previous albums he did just about everything on his own, there is now a whole bunch of guests enabled. The basis is still Joey with his compositions, guitar and bass playing, and his delicious putrochel, but the specialist auxiliaries take the whole thing to a higher level. Especially the mix and master contribution of Ronnie Björnström (from Joey's favorite band Aeon) he can be very proud. Also from Aeon singer and lyrical inspiration Tommy Dahlström has a game of roaring along (on the wonderfully clumsy Just A Carpenter, fat song!). Furthermore, there are (just too many to mention) some vocal and guitar parts contributed by friends.

After intro Let's End This I am immediately confronted with the hard-hitting beechers Unanswered Prayers and Familia Sodomiticum. Especially the mud-greasy sound blows me away; together with the - in my ears - inventive lead guitar and bass parts. This is really very different cake than Goatmilker previously showed. I hear dynamics, I hear technical feats, but above all entertaining compositions. Such a fat breakdown as in Familia Sodomiticum towards the end, nice though. That Goatmilker originated from the spirit of a bass player can easily be betrayed. The frivolities on the four (or are there sometimes more?) strings speak volumes, witness for example a song like Upon The Cross - with another devastatingly clumsy break, this time about halfway through the track. Or take Hang The Priest, damn what a wonderful bass guitar sound.

I find it funny that the Behind The Cellardoor story is structurally followed up. Fortunately, there is also a breather through the intermezzo Pathway To Oratory, this piece of acoustic guitar strumming comes for a moment as called. From a thematic point of view, this turns out to be the intro to Church Rapaciousness, with which the thread is picked up again quickly and very brutally. This also gives some reason to go a little deeper into the texts. Just kidding. Never mind, of course, it depends here again on anti-Christian and blasphemous directness. The song titles give away enough I think. I also love to hear how the acoustic guitar and the chiming of the bells in the middle of this song come back. That's the depth I was talking about!

Do not think that Goatmilker has become soft, because at its core this is still scorchingly dirty death metal. Apart from intro and intermezzo, we hear nine technically skilled and monstrously brutal death metal tracks. As an extra added value compared to the previous albums, this time all elements have been optimally worked out and executed. Having ideas is one thing, having the opportunity and opportunities to implement them is the next step. On Exterminate The Holy, Joey Veerbeek and his Goatmilker bring everything together as far as I'm concerned. Blood, sweat and tears - or whatever poured out body juices - have been rewarded with a strong album! - WingsOfDeath
