Progressive Death Metal Project Explores Prehistoric Horror with Ferocity, Precision, and a Touching Tribute

Independent progressive death metal project The Grand Myth , the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Brandon Bordman , returns with a vengeance on the brand-new EP Devils of Vulture Valley — officially released on July 8, 2025 . This release marks a groundbreaking collaboration with author Ethan Pettus , bringing the brutal world of the Primitive War dinosaur horror series to sonic life.

In a powerful tribute, the EP also features narration from the late Wayne June , best known for his iconic work on the Darkest Dungeon video game and as the voice of the Primitive War audiobook. His haunting delivery appears on every track except "Blood and Moonlight Pt. 1 / Pt. 2," adding depth and gravitas to the prehistoric nightmare.

“It was important that we honor Wayne June,” says Bordman. “His narration of the first Primitive War book is how I originally experienced the story — it completely hooked me. He was a drummer himself, and his voice had a rhythm and weight that matched the intensity of the music. His presence is deeply felt on this record.”

Melding savage technicality with cinematic storytelling, Devils of Vulture Valley dives deep into a prehistoric hellscape filled with relentless violence, primal terror, and visceral atmosphere. Drawing comparisons to genre titans like The Black Dahlia Murder , Protest the Hero , and Between the Buried and Me , the EP delivers an intense listening experience for fans of progressive extremity and conceptual metal.

Written, recorded, and mixed by Brandon Bordman , the EP was mastered by Neil Schneider (known for his work with Blackbraid ), ensuring a crisp, punishing sound that’s as dynamic as it is devastating.
