KEKAL Celebrates Two Milestones with 2025 Refresh of Acclaimed Album “Acidity”
Jakarta-based avant-garde metal pioneers KEKAL are marking two major milestones in 2025: the 30th anniversary of their formation and the 20th anniversary of their seminal 5th studio album, Acidity . To commemorate these landmark occasions, the band is releasing a refreshed edition of Acidity —originally launched in 2005—with remastered audio, new artwork, and bonus tracks, revitalizing the album’s legacy for both longtime fans and new listeners.
A Landmark Album Two Decades Later
Acidity first emerged on CD and cassette in 2005, distributed in Indonesia by THT Productions through Musica Studio’s, and in Europe via Fear Dark. Over 7,000 physical copies were sold before the album went out of print, supplemented by more than 2,000 digital downloads from Bandcamp where it has been offered under a name-your-price model. Ranking as KEKAL’s second most popular release after their acclaimed 2003 album 1000 Thoughts of Violence , Acidity holds one of the highest listener ratings on RateYourMusic.com—a testament to its enduring impact on the avant-garde and progressive metal scenes.
What’s New in the 2025 Edition
Set for a July 2025 digital release on Bandcamp, the updated edition of Acidity features remastered audio to enhance the album’s intricate layers of experimental sound. Accompanying the fresh sonic experience is a completely redesigned album cover that reflects KEKAL’s evolving artistic vision. Adding to the allure, two previously unreleased cover songs have been included as bonus tracks: The Prow (originally by Voivod) and Juices Like Wine (by Celtic Frost). Talks are also underway with labels to offer this edition in physical formats.
Fans can revisit the album’s evocative music video for A Dream For A Moment , re-uploaded in 2020, which remains a poignant visual companion to the record’s complex moods: Watch on YouTube .
KEKAL’s Ongoing Journey of Musical Exploration
Founded in 1995 in Jakarta, KEKAL started as a straightforward extreme metal band but soon expanded their sound to embrace progressive, avant-garde, and experimental elements—creating music that is both challenging and accessible. Their 2003 album 1000 Thoughts of Violence marked a pivotal evolution, blending ferocious energy with bold artistic experimentation.
Notably, KEKAL was one of Indonesia’s first metal acts to achieve international recognition in the early 2000s, releasing albums across North America and Europe and becoming the country’s first band to tour Europe in 2004. Since 2009, KEKAL has operated without official members, with former contributors continuing to create under the band’s name in a unique, open-collaborative format. To date, KEKAL has released 13 full-length albums, continually pushing the boundaries of metal music.
