Danish metal trailblazers MEZMERIZER have been selected to open the latest Metallurg Music Magazine compilation CD—an honor backed by a glowing 10/10 review of the band’s debut full-length album. The exclusive CD is being physically distributed with 5,000 copies of the June issue, curated and released by a team of dedicated metalheads from war-torn Ukraine.

The band’s thunderous and emotionally charged track, “Blessed in Disgrace,” was hand-picked to lead the compilation, a moment that left guitarist Flemming Goldberg-Larsen both honored and humbled.
“Obviously, we’re thrilled with the warm reception of our debut album,” says Goldberg-Larsen. “Magazines, radio stations, and podcasts have shown strong support for our singer Michael Bastholm Dahl – formerly the frontman of Danish thrash legends ARTILLERY . That support means a lot, especially since MEZMERIZER explores a different sound than what he was previously known for.”
While critical acclaim is gratifying, Goldberg-Larsen shares that the deeper emotional connection to the Metallurg team’s story is what left the greatest impact.
“What humbles me most is the reception we received from the Metallurg crew,” he explains. “We reached out to them on our own, after learning the magazine was originally produced in Ukraine during the ongoing war . Like many Europeans, we have strong feelings about the situation—about aggressors, victims, and the unbreakable human spirit that keeps music alive.”
He also reflected on the powerful influence of music and solidarity across borders:
“I’ve lost count of how many times my day has turned around just by hearing a great song or seeing a live show,” he adds. “That’s why reaching out to Ukraine meant something deeply personal. Our friends in Crown the Beast , another band from Odense, were among the first to tour Ukraine after the war began—and I can’t express how proud that made me. If you understand why, I hope you’ll spin them on Spotify and support brilliant Ukrainian metal acts like Jinjer , Drudkh , Ignea , and White Ward .”
The feature in Metallurg Music Magazine also stirred nostalgia for Goldberg-Larsen:
“I’ve been a metalhead for over 30 years. There’s something magical about printed magazines—holding those glossy pages, diving into interviews, reviews, and scene reports. It’s the same feeling you get when holding a vinyl cover while the music plays. Maybe I’m just old,” he laughs, “but so are the guys who created this amazing genre.”
With nods to tradition and a heart rooted in community, MEZMERIZER’s future looks as bright as their riffs are heavy. Be sure to check out “Blessed in Disgrace” and stay tuned for more from this rising force in progressive melodic metal.
