FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Los Angeles, CA – Shock rock pioneers Society 1 returned to the stage after a two-year hiatus with an explosive and controversial performance at the legendary Whisky A Go Go , following the success of their #1 rockumentary Everyone Dies (Rock Stars Don’t Count) — and true to form, chaos reigned.
Frontman Matt Zane shocked the crowd by handing fans a knife mid-set and allowing them to take turns cutting him, drawing blood live on stage. The act, which stunned many and drew waves of online backlash, is not without precedent. Icons like Iggy Pop, Sid Vicious, Darby Crash, GG Allin , and Marilyn Manson have all bled for their art — but on Monday night, Zane took things a step further by making the crowd part of the carnage, cementing his place in shock rock history .
“It felt good to be back and to kind of pull it off,” Zane said after the show. “A lot of people who found us through the movie were wondering if it was going to be anything close to that or if we were way past our prime.”
That question was answered with a resounding no . The night included Zane attacking the crowd, hanging upside down from the Whisky balcony, deploying the infamous “dick mic stand” while inviting fans to simulate fellatio, and closing the set with a raw rendition of GG Allin’s “Die When You Die” — pants down and ass out.
Love it or hate it, the performance was unforgettable — a visceral reminder that Society 1 continues to push boundaries in a world increasingly afraid to.
