New York City, NY – Vajra , the progressive alternative rock band known for their captivating blend of gothic prog, alt-metal, and progressive metal, is set to release their new single, Sub Specie Aeternitatis , on January 17, 2025 . Known for their atmospheric, heavy instrumentation and hauntingly melodic vocals, Vajra’s new track promises to be a mesmerizing addition to their unique catalog of music.

The new single, Sub Specie Aeternitatis , is a dynamic fusion of metal, progressive rock, hard rock, and alternative, laced with pop arena vocals that give the track an otherworldly edge. Lead vocalist Annamaria Pinna 's sultry voice weaves through djenty, dissonant guitars and intricate rhythms, creating a captivating, almost hypnotic atmosphere. Her lyrics, rich with shadowy introspection, invite listeners into a world of self-reflection, exploring the eternal from within.

In Pinna's words, “Lyrically, I was thinking about the dissonance in the world, juxtaposing all of our similarities, including the common themes that run through all religions. I was reminding myself that I am the one that is experiencing itself – from the eternal, hence the title. Around that time, I was listening to an Alan Watts lecture, and he quoted a 19th-century Rabbi. His words stuck with me, and they were perfect to convey the message of the song.”

“Sub Specie Aeternitatis” also comes with a visually stunning music video, featuring a somatic improvised dance that echoes the ethereal energy of Kate Bush and the intensity of "Black Swan" . Produced, shot, edited, and performed by Pinna and guitarist Dave Sussman , the video is a testament to the duo’s creativity. “Editing dance videos is notoriously tricky. But I was determined to create a 'movement-building-to-crescendo' sequence where Annamaria's captivating somatic improvisation would be the constant and uncut focal point,” Sussman explains. Drawing inspiration from contemporary art and classic ballet, the video is as much a visual journey as the track itself.

About Vajra: Vajra’s sound is a haunting blend of Eastern Indian influences with progressive rock, creating a dark and hypnotic atmosphere. The band is renowned for their atmospheric music, complex rhythms, and Annamaria Pinna’s powerful vocals.
