Decibel Premieres 'The Hostage Situation' Explosive New Music Video for "The Last Leg"

The Hostage Situation, the chaotic Southern hardcore band from Phoenix, AZ, has made a powerful return with the release of their intense new single, "The Last Leg," on June 27, 2024. Accompanying the track is a visually jarring music video that premiered today via Decibel Magazine. The video’s glitchy, rapid-fire visuals perfectly capture the energy and chaos of the band’s sound, creating an immersive experience for viewers.

“The Last Leg” showcases The Hostage Situation’s signature blend of mathcore, metalcore, and Southern hardcore, drawing comparisons to bands like Every Time I Die, Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster, and Pantera. The track is a fiery anthem that reflects the band’s roots while pushing the boundaries of modern metal music.

Vocalist Brandon Kellum shared insights into the creative process behind the music video:

"We wanted to connect the music video to the single art. With our members spread across the country, we had to get creative. I filmed some performance footage before our last show and combined it with visuals inspired by the lyrics to evoke an early DIY punk/post-hardcore mixed-media vibe. On first watch, it may seem sporadic and almost schizophrenic, but there are a lot of intentional layers for the adventurous viewer to unpack.”

About The Hostage Situation

The Hostage Situation is a band known for their chaotic, genre-blending sound, combining elements of mathcore, metalcore, and Southern hardcore. Formed in Phoenix, AZ, the band consists of Brandon Kellum (vocals), Andy Marshall (guitars), Varay Porter (guitars), Ryan Glaus (bass), and Alex Zawadski (drums). During their early years, The Hostage Situation shared the stage with notable acts like The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, The Irish Front, and Arsonists Get All The Girls.

After a long hiatus, the band made a comeback in 2017 with annual reunion shows, supporting local music-based nonprofits. These events have revived MySpace-era favorites and raised nearly $10,000 for the Arizona nonprofit organization Rosie’s House.

In 2024, The Hostage Situation broke their 18-year silence with the release of "The Last Leg," mixed and mastered by Kevin Antreassian (The Dillinger Escape Plan/The Sawtooth Grin). The single marks a significant return for the band, blending the raw energy of early 2000s metalcore with a distinct Southern hardcore edge.
