Corey Taylor discussed the current situation of his enduring STONE SOUR project, which has been inactive for over five years, in a recent interview with Australia’s AndrewHaug.com .

“We call it indefinite hiatus. It’s one of those,” Corey said. “I talk to  Tooch  [ Christian Martucci , guitarist for  STONE SOUR  and  Taylor ‘s solo band] about this all the time. It’s just one of those things where you just don’t see it coming back anytime soon. They’re just kind of irreconcilable differences with certain people, and a lot of things that… Obviously, I don’t wanna… I’m not gonna run anybody down or anything, but it’s just one of those things that for me I can’t compromise anymore for different reasons. If I’m gonna do music, I wanna do it full-tilt. It’s the best thing for me to be able to do [my solo project]. And  STONE SOUR  is what I did. And I’m proud of it. I’m proud of what we did.”

Back in 2021, Corey talked about his decision to step away from STONE SOUR during an appearance on  “95.5 KLOS.”

He said at the time: “There was kind of a plateau with  STONE SOUR , creatively, that I needed to kind of step away from,”  Corey  said (watch interview below). “For some reason, it didn’t feel the way that it felt in the past. And also, I was still dealing with my own issues coming out of my last marriage, and dealing with the depression that had come with that, and the bile of the toxic relationship…

“So going into  SLIPKNOT  helped with that, it helped me release a lot of that, but then coming out of that, I knew that if I was going to be able to heal a little faster, I needed to do something that felt fresher,” he explained. “So the solo thing was definitely what I needed to do. And obviously, I’m going to stay doing solo stuff for a little longer.

“But you never say never,”  Corey  added. “ STONE SOUR  has been a part of my life since I was 19 years old, it predates  SLIPKNOT  by five years, and it was the first real band that I ever started. So it will always be there for me, and hopefully, the other guys in the band feel that way. But for right now, I just need to be able to do this, and it’s just a part of me.”

Since finishing the tour for their latest studio album, Hydrograd , in 2017, STONE SOUR has been out of the spotlight and off the stage. Taylor has been busy with SLIPKNOT , as well as releasing his first solo album, CMFT , and its sequel, CMF2 , which came out in September. STONE SOUR also put out a live album, Hello, You B*stards: Live In Reno , in December 2019.
