Ah! I feel perky when I discover a nugget of the underground in the middle of a whole bunch of banal, boring or unlistenable releases. This is the case today thanks to Reflections From An Unseen World .
Founded in 2009 in Genoa, despite already having three albums, BLUE DAWN has remained quite confidential, it seems to me. Well, things might change because their new album is particularly interesting.
BLUE DAWNplays music that I would classify as old school hard rock, 70s progressive or psychedelic rock, and heavy/doom metal. It emanates from the titles a melancholic aura essentially due to the voice of the singer, and a deep darkness in the singer. The melodies are very elaborate and very effective and the guitar solos are not only brilliant but particularly readable, intelligent and complementary to the melodic framework. I stop for a few moments on the case of this solo guitarist: Davide BRUZZI filled my ears with the incredible solo that explodes at the opening of the album, just after the piano intro. For comparison, he reminded me of the virtuosity of his compatriot Simone FALOVO of ELEKTRADRIVE .
From the point of view of influences, there is of course BLACK SABBATH (whose group also covers Who Are You? ) but overall, I felt the doom and distressing side of the masters from the first track, Hostage Of Grudge and this continues with Praise Of Folly or From Hell .
To this is added in the construction of the pieces, in the incorporation of keyboards, in certain bridges or certain bass lines, a strong influence of BLUE ÖYSTER CULT . How, for example, can you not think of BÖC's Sole Survivor when hearing Sea Of Glass ?
Look out, don't make me say what I didn't say, BLUE DAWNdon't get stuck in 70s proto metal. The band is quite capable of shifting into a real heavy metal power – see the rhythm of Damage Done which tumbles on the double bass drum and delivers almost thrash stop and go. I adore.
The album contains real gems like Hostage Of Grudge (what guitar parts!), the burning Damage Done , the astonishing Sea Of Glass with an excellent sax solo, and this instrumental which sits in the center , A Blue Monster In My Heart , which is both melodic, punchy and very imaginative. Cheer !
The production is honest despite a few points that catch my ears a bit. To my taste – because it's only a matter of taste – I would have hoped for a singer with a little less melancholy and a little more madness. Reflections From An Unseen World is nonetheless an unexpected, varied and very endearing album that deserves to be discovered, and more so.
PS - If you track down the collector, know that in addition to the normal CD and LP media, the album comes out on red vinyl in only 66 copies. metal-integral

BLUEDAWN was conceived in the early 2009 by Enrico (bass guitar) and Andrea (Drums) joined shortly after by Monica (vocals) and Paolo (guitar). Gifted with far different musical feelings, they try to create a single musical flavor starting from 70's English hard rock and dark sound through modern rock and metal. After a year of rehearsals, the band entered Nadir Studios, assisted by Tommy Talamanca and the final product was ready at the end of 2010, showcasing a varied musical effort, with gothic/doom metal sounds and progressive song structures. The album has been released by Black Widow records worldwide in late February 2011. In November 2012 the band did a successful UK tour. In the beginning of the new year Cruschelli had to relocate in another part of the country, forcing the band to hire a new guitar player, experienced musician Luigi Milanese. In march the band will enter Nadir studios to record their second album, to be released in December. The new album, titled Cycle of pain, has been released on Black Widow Records in December 2012. After helping the band to arrange, produce and record the new songs, Milanese decides to movie to America, Blue Dawn have now recruited new, permanent guitar player Andrea "Marty" Martino,. In late 2016 a new album, "Edge of chaos" was recorded and came out in the spring of 2017 on BWR. A second guitar player who plays also keyboards, has been added in the line up and debuted live with the band in July 2017 at Genoa's PortolIve MetalFest, supporting Arcturus, Sadist and Mortuary Drape.
In 2018 Blue Dawn released the track “Zombie” on the tribute album “Terro tales – a tribute to Death SS ”.
