A new black metal band is always welcome. I note that a country like Poland has become quite dominant in recent years in the field of high-quality publications. This is how this relatively young Wesele reached me via the underground subsidiary label of Odium Rex, Underground Kvlt Records. According to the promo, this is the solo project of the Pole Rafal Chruscicki, who takes care of everything. By the way, Wesele  is the Polish word for wedding, although I don't know if there is anything to celebrate here with the prospect of being classified as depressive, atmospheric black metal.

The texts are entirely in Polish, so without a translation machine it is impossible to make something of this. Special then to give this debut edition a French title,  Fin de siècle , or end of a century. Most fans now know that the Polish language and black metal go hand in hand and that is no different here. What should be noted is that this doesn't necessarily feel like depressed or depressed black metal. The whole thing is served a bit too peppery for that. Perhaps the textual event prompts some form of self-pity or melancholy? Admittedly, I haven't looked into this further.

We do hear a fairly repetitive atmospheric charge. A song like Pustka (emptiness) lingers a little too long towards the end, but it also contains an interesting palette of guitar riffs and techniques. Wieczność (eternity) is the song that most captures the imagination. With a variation in speed and different guitar melodies that come together, an interesting whole is created in the early stages. The vocals convince with a raspy disposition, in which Mr. Chruscicki doesn't drop a stitch during the entire record.

In conclusion, this is a tasteful, especially melodically and atmospherically charged debut, which in itself adds little to the genre, but can be just as effective as variety for fans. If you can agree more with records that really invite self-flagellation, it is best to put these aside. Nevertheless, great work from this loner!

Wesele (The Wedding) is Rafal Chruscicki's solo project and, according to its author, the idea for it was born a few years ago and matured in the fumes of the painting and literature of Młoda Polska (Young Poland). The project was to be a departure from his earlier work; something completely serious and personal, an independent and artistically unlimited piece, in which the musical, lyrical and graphic layers correspond with each other and form a unity.
