Band name and album title: Mathew's Hidden Museum with Mathew's Hidden Museum
Genre: Occult Rock, whatever that is.
Release date and label: The album was released on February 3rd, 2023 via Interstellar Smoke Records.
Other band releases: This is the first album and apart from a few Bandcamp singles the only release of this solo project.
How I met the band: Metal Devastation Radio really knows how to find weird stuff that piques my interest, if only to figure out what the heck a genre is supposed to be. So let's find out together.
What do I think of the disc: It's really strange what's going on here. Basically very dark Progressive Rock, which in itself has always been strange. Here not only the limits of the instruments are explored, but also strange combinations are tried out and objects of daily use are apparently misused. It's hard for me to listen to as the music demands quite a bit of attention here. So nothing to relax. Surely some musicians will have fun with this and I'm sure it's wonderful to trip to.
I like NAKED & ROLLED IN THAT ROTTEN DIRT pretty much. Somehow psychedelic and driving and at the same time dark. A mean take on the Psychedelic Roxk of the 60's I'd say. I enjoy it.
As for GOLDEN, I'm not sure if he still has any synths over the drums, or just misappropriated some pipes. Both would be possible and considering the rest of the song, even plausible. There's something about the song that I like, even if I can't point my finger at it.
Best of all, I like BORN ON THE 3RD OF JULY. This is where the 60s come through with their psychedelic rock. This is where rock comes through the most, even if there is a lot of experimentation going on here.
Conclusion: Strange, really strange, but I enjoy it. As if Jefferson Airplane, Emmerson Lake & Palmer and Black Sabbath had been thrown into one pot and slowly boiled away over a low heat. Be sure to check it out: fullmetalmayhem

Multi-instrumentalist/vocalist and producer, Mathew Bethancourt comfortably inhabits a variety of personae from ethereal neo psychedelic rock and electronica, to organ-led progressive jams and post grunge shimmering acoustic gems. The Josiah frontman looks to the spaces between spaces for creative inspiration, evoking a sense of all things fornicating, all the time. Make of this what you will, as you experience the wyrd that is Mathew’s Hidden Museum.
