The revelation that I (also) have often chanted, that black metal is one of the most diverse and viable segments of metal music, may not be so sympathetic to a true black metaller, because the scene loses its original concept by the fact that according to a comprehensive structure lined with compromises some are building.

Of course, for those whose ears select the progressive approach, there are still those bands who have no idea to experiment and reform black metal. Among them is, for example, the Polish duo Devilpriest , founded in 2015 . On November 12, the group released their second LP, courtesy of Odium Recods , entitled "In Repugnant Adoration".

I don't think the standard-bearers of occult black metal will disappoint the old-school fans, because here dirty, stinging, diabolical death/black metal pours out of the speakers for thirty-eight minutes, there are no caressing melodies, symphonic interludes, or melodious vocals.

And of course it's important to remember that they don't mindlessly strum the guitars and beat the drums, but trained musicians make up the team's engine. These are cleverly constructed compositions, in which complexity accompanies the songs in the same way as the lightning-fast, simpler maelstroms.

The sound of a church organ escapes into the air at the beginning of the opening movement Adoration/Shem-Ham-Forash , around which fragments of devilish sound are wrapped, and then the Polish horde strikes between the strings: they change from a Bolt Thrower-like doom theme to destructive black metal. The Black Milk Of Lilith treads the path of extremity almost all the way through, with a cruel good guitar solo and a threatening atmosphere.

It would be difficult to analyze the other songs individually, because the concept is uniform throughout, there are no swings in any direction. I would rather focus on the good, winding guitar solos, many of which are strummed by the gentleman handling the six-string. These make a big impact on the overall picture, it's not as if the riffs or the drum themes are weak.

The seven-piece "In Repugnant Adoration", which also includes a Black Crucifixion cover ( Flowing Downwards ), is an almost flawless work, an excellent textbook example of how quality black metal is timeless and indestructible even without progressiveness. Devil and hell!
