A mixture of punk, hardcore and metal and then also PAPA ROACH, VOLBEAT and MUDVAYNE in the musical references? Sounds funny at first, but that's exactly how the Americans INCOMING DAYS describe the "heavy party metal" that the Spokane-based band has been celebrating since it was founded in 2017. Metal fans on the other side of the Atlantic can now also listen to what the whole thing sounds like, because with "Off The Map" the first long-distance film of the five-piece is in the starting blocks.
Let me say straight away that the total of ten tracks didn't exactly trigger a storm of enthusiasm in me. The opener 'Not The Same' sums up the disc's problems quite well, because the song doesn't really show a red thread between chants, shouts, clean vocals and the same staccato groove. Accordingly, the track's playing time of just three and a half minutes stretches like chewing gum, which makes me suspect bad things for the next half hour. Luckily, '308' is more influenced by punk right after it, has a decent hook line for the first time and is actually fun. Yes, the clean vocals are a bit shaky here too, but in a punk context that's okay.
Unfortunately, this song remains, together with the equally punky 'Lost' shortly before the end, the only ray of hope on a record that otherwise bombards the listener with a very transparent and boring scheme-F. In any case, I'm really annoyed by the constant staccato riff bombardment and the sometimes really confused shouts and chants and I'm longing for the end of the season soon. In the end, the isolated melodic rays of hope can't change that much, because they are also ended after a few seconds, suffer from the clear vocals that take some getting used to and have to give way to a blunt shout passage or a hair-raising guitar solo.
Of course, the fact that the sound of "Off The Map" hammers out of the speakers very raw and unbalanced doesn't help in the final statement either. Perhaps the fivesome's music works better in a small club and fires up the party that the Americans have written on their own musical flag, but on CD this is mostly below average and not exactly captivating. - powermetal
Release Date: 25.03.22
FFO: Attila, Sevendust, Bodycount
Location: Spokane Washington USA
Short Bio: Lights out is a song about all the wild nights. It's the big middle finger to authority and doubters and haters and all that. It's about the night and embracing all of it. Good bad and ugly. Making bad decisions and riding them out until it's over. It's also being willing to defend that life and say I'm not perfect and I have my faults. At least I admit it. It's as if I came with a warning label on my head - RYATT
