DARKWAVE UNLEASHES HORROR SACRI – A NEW ERA OF PROGRESSIVE/EXPERIMENTAL THRASH (OUT NOW)

Hungarian musician Zsolt Némethy has returned with Horror Sacri , the bold new full-length from his experimental solo project Darkwave . Released on August 21, 2025 , the album marks a watershed moment in Darkwave’s evolution — and it’s out now on Bandcamp.

Known for weaving together progressive thrash foundations with elements of death, power, symphonic, folk, and even jazz, Darkwave has built a reputation for refusing to be confined by genre boundaries. With Horror Sacri , Némethy pushes further than ever before. For the first time in Darkwave’s history, vocals and lyrics take center stage, transforming what was once purely instrumental into a visceral, human narrative of reckoning, transcendence, and defiance.

The title, Horror Sacri (“sacred dread”), reflects the album’s core themes — awe and fear in the face of the sacred, and the fragile search for meaning in the shadow of mortality. Rather than a dogmatic or theological statement, the record confronts these struggles through a deeply personal lens.

Adding to its depth, Horror Sacri also introduces guest performances for the first time in Darkwave’s catalog. Fredrik Keith Croona (Against I) brings his blackened death metal intensity, while Fati Urbán’s ethereal voice offers a haunting contrast, expanding the album’s emotional scope.

From the crushing precision of progressive thrash to orchestral grandeur and experimental textures, Darkwave’s fourth album stands as both a continuation of the project’s earlier explorations ( Hexapla , Missa Innominata , Thanatology ) and a daring leap forward.
