It's hard to believe that Royal Hunt has been around since 1989 and the band has already released their sixteenth studio album over the years.
Curiously, however, the Danes have always stayed under the radar, and have never been able to play their way up to the top echelon.
Why is that? No idea, it can't be the quality of the songs; they are, like now with the new album "Dystoia Pt.2", high-class.

As a prog hater, the categorization “prog metal” puts me off; maybe others feel the same way. However, the prog elements in Royal Hunt are used very carefully and sparingly. Sometimes a little more ("The Key Of Insanity"), sometimes a little less ("Thorn In My Heart").
So it can be that the boys themselves are a bit in the way. Too much for prog deniers like me, too little for prog fanatics.

Without a doubt, Royal Hunt have a gifted singer in DC Cooper, who shines both in the fast songs and in the more sedate pieces a la "Live Another Day" or "Left In The Wind".
And even if the singer is silent, as with the instrumental "The Purge" there are no qualitative slumps.

The music of the Copenhageners is definitely not for the side; here you should take your time and enjoy the songs with devotion. With the boys it's not just about playing three minutes of songs, but here the average length is about seven minutes. “Scream Of Anger” even comes up with fourteen minutes. And that doesn't automatically mean that the songs are exclusively "heavy stuff"; you just didn't shy away from living out cool ideas in peace.

Malmsteen, Ring of Fire, Royal Hunt), Henrik Brockman (Royal Hunt, Evil Masquerade, N ́Tribe), Kenny  Lubcke (Narita, Zoser Mez) and Alexandra Andersen (Royal Hunt, JSP). “Dystopia – Part 2” will be released in  following formats: regular CD, various Deluxe editions/bundles and a gatefold, heavy vinyl double LP  (availability date pending). ROYAL HUNT keep expanding their trademark sound and, as the story which  inspired the project - Ray Bradbury ́s classic novel “Fahrenheit 451” – gets more intense towards the end, the  music turns into more dynamic, heavier direction. Once again the guest singers add even more dramatic contrasts to an already cinematic yet solidly rocking soundscape. Simply a “must have” for any symfo/prog /power fan out there!
